Morning friends,

I have been trying different things to avoid hitting my bow arm clothing over the years and have not found bullproof solution...

What are the types of things you have done to solve this problem?

I do hunt cold weather and do bundle up, but even regular clothing will catch sometimes.
I seem to hit bicep area often, have moved my arm gard up and down, use archer type jakets.
It has happened hunting as well on live shots and luckily arrow sailed clear but geeeez.....

Any other ideas?

Cheers

Have no idea what your shooting form looks like but don't count out changes in that before trying to band aid the issue.

In cold weather I take a long sleeve t-shirt and cut the sleeve off. Take the shoulder end and add a piece of elastic band and sew the ends over the band. Then you can put this over the bow arm it will hold it all down. Cutting the toes of a tube sock works well also just have to sew the toe end so it doesnt unravel.

difference in the world, but the Marines don't have that problem.

Back in the 60s/70s I carried two elastic bands (homemade)in my pccket and put them on my upper arm combined with an armguard and a Neet chest protector. It kept everything out of the way.

If you are a big guy with a barrel chest or equivalent that may contribute to the problem.  Try opening up your bow stance a little bit.  In other words bring your back foot around a touch.  Get in your normal shooting position and then make note of your foot placement.  Rotate the back foot out counterclockwise if you  are a righty about six inches or so and give that a try.  Also make sure that you are gripping the bow tightly enough that the string is not rebounding into your arm.  You shouldnt choke the bow but give it a firm handshake. Hope this helps.

I do not live in Canada so it does not get nearly as cold here as there.....but.....here is what I do.

I use Under Armor Cold Gear (the compression fit) as my base layer. Some times it will take two or three layes of that if it is real cold. I then layer on top of that with normal longjohns and sweatshirts. The thing that I do though, is to cut off the left sleeve (I am right handed) of the layers that go over the under armor. This way the under armor is the only thing on my bow arm and it fits so tight that I do mot have problems with hitting my arm. The coldest temps we normally have to deal with are in the mid to high 20's.

A knee high sock with the toe cut out works great for holding everything down and in.

It's not expensive and you already have a back up sock...lol

God bless,Mudd

PS: I have to agree with what others have said... if you're getting hits on your bicep... you need to check your form.

Learn to use vests instead of lots of arm cover.  If you keep your core warm, the arms won't get cold, even with very little covering them.  That reduces much, maybe most of the bulk due to clothing.  If you are hitting biceps area, either you are bulking up WAY too much (clothing) or your form is way off. .  or you closely resemble the Hulk of cartoons.

I made a chest protector out of leather.  As well as sewing elastic to the inside of the sleave on the upper part.

I use the sock idea, only with women's stockings.
Just cut the foot out of them. They roll up easily and just roll them on over your arm. They are a neutral color, and work really well, and are cheap.

I use my armguard for this plus a "garder" I made from elastic material that goes between my elbow and shoulder.

I used the sleeve of a slip over camo shirt and sewed velco in the middle and top of it so I can pull as tight as needed.

Personally, on some clothing the cloth rides up when raising the bow in the armpit area and is a proble especially when canting a bow.  To combat this, I either wear a tight vest, or a shooting vest (black). When I do this, I usually do not have a problem.

I found an extra long arm guard - fleece camo and "hinged" in the middle. Runs from my upper wrist to my lower biceps. I wear it hunting even in warm weather to keep a jacket sleeve from interfering. It's the only time I wear a guard, but I always wear it hunting. I've tried shooting in my hunting clothes and every once in a while I do get a string brush on my arm, so I'd rather not take the chance of that one time happening at the wrong time.

Rubber bands.   Keep a bag of the wide ones in different sizes in your gear bag or wrapped around the top of your bow quiver.

I use what Mudd & Kat do.  I find I don't even need an an arm guard because the ladies nylon knee high with toe cut out is smooth enough to allow the string to pass.  My wife is always throwing out knee high nylons stockings that have snags  :)
