Hogs and Ice Storm
«

Just got back from a hog hunt down a Shiloh ranch. Was only able to hunt about have the time due to the ice storm. Trees and branches were falling all over the place. Never hunted in an ice storm before, actually not too bad if you dress right, but it was plume dangerous being out in the woods. They finaly lost electric at the camp about 3:00 AM Sunday morning and we made a run to get back to St. Louis.
The damage down in the Springfield, Mo area is like nothing I have ever seen. Thank God we all made it home safe.
Matt and Cheryl could some prayers sent their way.

I was wondering how things were going down there.
I was in a treestand yesterday morning (deer season closes today) when the heavy sleet and freezing rain started. I wasn't uncomfortable until it started the thunder and lightning and the iced arrows didn't look to be good for accuracy.
Ray, I imagine you had quite a drive back to St. Louis. The storm looked like it followed you home. Glad you made it safely.

Yes, it was quite an adventure.
I have to say the gear I had worked great in the sleet and rain. Cabela's M50 rain gear, Merino Wool, Redwing boots, wool bibs, etc. I could not have been more comfortable. The hogs were all held up, very little for them to eat I was surprised they did not come to the corn better. The stalking was almost impossible when the ground is frozen.
The trees just keep crashing to the ground all day Saturday, not very safe.
I will be back, I love to hunt hogs!

Howard, I think it is suppose to be somewhat better by then. However, you should definitly call down there to make sure everything is OK. For example, the power maybe out.
Other than the weather (which totally did us in) you should have a good hunt. The hogs are hitting feeders good in most places because the acorns are not too plentiful this year, at least in the Ada area.

PS bring lots of warm cloths, it is suppose to get somewhat warmer towards the weekend.

Howard: count on cold and probably muddy since this stuff isn't melting too much today. Next two days aren't supposed to be over 25. There is a chance of precip on Fri-Sat but our weathermen don't know much past 24hours in the future so I wouldn't worry about it.
Good luck this weekend.

Raymo do you have any info on where you hunted? I only live a few hours from Springfield and would love to hog hunt. You are right about the damage there. I have a friend in that area that lost power and sunday I took a generator down there. Damage was massive travel was crap but spirits were high.
