I have an interesting dilema and would like some input from everyone. I have a Herway Carnivore recurve that is 47@28, I shoot the bow great out to 20 yards. I have been thinking about getting a heavier set of limbs in the 55-60lb range. I have been shooting a friends bow that is 58@28 with no problems with the weight. I have the money to get the limbs or get a couple of new ladderstands to hunt out of. Which would you choose, I know its my decision in the end but I would like to know what you think?

More stands may get you more shots at 20 or less.

My Opinion is....

Ship me your bow, build a new one out of sticks and I will be very happy   :readit:

If you are hunting deer, Sika, and hogs, you will be fine in your weight.

I would buy the stands if that's what the choice is between.

Personally I am not a huge stand guy. I do own a climber and will hunt stands but i think you should wait until there is something you absolutely need.

Shooting 55-60 lbs will not make you a better shooter. There is something to be said about back up also.  Theres a lot of tough choices, good luck.

I would go with the heavier limbs myself. I just dont have any confiedence in light wight bows. I think that people should hunt with the heaviest bow they can shoot good. and 55 to 60 pounds really is not really that much wight.

I'd go with the stands.
The bow sounds good enough.

Or..... you could order a new bow at 53#'s that shoots like a 55-60# bow.... just a thought...   :bigsmyl:

Don,t go over the 55# limbs. You will regret it later on.

Then you have the issue of shooting the bow on a regular basis or just using the ladder stands for the season......   :campfire:

Different limbs..$$ might need different arrows..$$  might need different heads..$$  Been there, done that. If you are a sharpshooter with the 47# limbs, get a couple of extra stands and hunt some different areas( even put one up in your yard to practice from). Extra equipment is nice but, spending more time in the woods is priceless.

Mojostick

You could build a bunch of natural brush blinds and buy the limbs.

Your bow is a very good weight for hunting. How many ladder stands do you have now? How old are you??? Have you ever used a ground blind? Plenty of time to kick it around.

Flip a coin. By the time it comes down you'll know what you're hoping it will be.

Expand your coversge/options and go with the stands.  Your bow weight is sufficient, the first priority should be confidence with your bow and consistent shot placement.  Another thought, you may find heavier limbs a bit of a challenge in very cold weather.  Your choice, just make a realistic, informed decision.  Good luck!

Your bow weight is fine.
As long as your arrows fly true and ya got sharp broadheads....

If you saw the Solana Thread and saw the Hog sheilds Izzy put a good sharp 2 blade broadhead through with a 47 lb bow, then you know your bow is enough to get through a deer's rib cage.

Thanks guys, I appreciate everyones comments and suggestions. Although I haven't harvested any animals with this bow I know that it has plenty of power to do the job on anything I plan on hunting(whitetails, bunnys and other small game) and after reading some other threads I shouldn't have any problems with other animals either. I think for the time being I will hold off on the new limbs.
