I made my annual trip out to the family ranch in western Nebraska and it was a successful trip again.  Saw lots of deer and some really big ones pushing the 190 mark but theres a reason they got that big.

I made my set up in a creep feeder that wasnt being used and a water trough and windmill since the weather turned warm during the day.  I opted for them to come to me instead of stalking them.  I had some long sits and was starting to question my choices.  So I upped the stakes a little with some Muley doe in heat pee and some decoys.  It worked out for me.  I saw him coming across the wheat field in a pretty steady canter and nose to the ground where I had drug my pee soaked rag from my boot.  He dropped down into the canyon in front of me and made his way up the trail to me.  I was now standing and quarter drawn waiting.  I could see his tines as he topped the ridge.  He stopped directly in front of me @ 14 yards when he noticed something wasn't right.  By then it was too late he had already been bitten  by the footed sitka spruce shaft with a shaving  sharp 145 STOS head.   My arrow was buried to the fletchings in his brisket from the head on shot.  He ran down into the canyon about 60 yards and his tail started to flicker as he was now running sideways.  I had jumped out of the creep feeder and was watching him with a pretty darn nice smile on my face.  He went another 20 yards or so and expired.  I had to go back to the barn to get the four wheeler and ease down into the canyon and retrieve him.   I shot him with a bow that I made and that makes this trophy even sweeter.

Thanks for looking.

If you hunt with your kids when they are young, you won't be hunting all over for them when they are teenagers.
