"Right now is a great time to start practicing for the August opener. "If and when a big game animal presents itself," Root says, "you want to make sure you make an accurate shot."

And yet, ridiculous as it sounds, somewhere out there, someone is dusting off their poor, lonely old bow that's been sitting in a corner all year, wistfully wishing it could fling a few arrows every once in a while, instead of just before the opener.

Brings a tear to me eye, it does.

I'm still waiting for that Texas whitetail to "present itself" to me. I should have enough time to start practicing after that happens. In the mean time, I think I'll go have another

General archery elk starts Aug. 20th as well.

Squirrel season is almost in. I bettter get a few pop bottles out and use some sticks for legs! Can't be unprepared.....
