I have been reading this site for some time now and thought it was high time I joined. So I did the needful and was promptly ticked off by e-mail saying that I had already registered last September. Getting old I guess because I don't recall registering.    Sorry Rob!  ;)

I used to shoot a rudimentary bamboo bow with reed arrows as a kid but then guns came along and the bow was forgotten.

Fast forward three odd decades and I got the itch to shoot a bow again, so I ordered a 40# Martin Jaguar. A year later I sold that and got myself a 40# Samick Sage from 3 Rivers but barely had it for a few days when a friend came over and said he wanted it. The Sage was replaced with a 50# Bear Montana and it's a very nice bow, especially after replacing the string with one from SBD.

I am currently awaiting a 60# T/D Bama Hunter from Nate and am really looking forward to it.

Barring FITA style archery, archery is a dead sport in India and everything needs to be imported. The only exception to this are some of the tribal areas where the bow is still used for hunting and I am very keen on collecting these bows and arrows for my collection.

Regards,

Welcome! You're gonna love that BamaBows Hunter. I've got a 2pc Hunter and a 1pc Royal, and am waiting on a 2pc Elite Classic. Nate's bows are Top-Notch in everyway.

I'm glad to see Nate going International!

What is the hunting situation in India? Are you interested in hunting, or just shooting? Don't hesitate to keep us updated on your adventures, with pics of course. We love following our Trad Brothers' activities, and foreign locations really feed the fire. I spent 12 years in the Asia Pacific Region, but sadly never hunted or even shot bows there. I've yet to make it too India.

Thanks a lot for the welcome everyone.

Danny,

I am still kicking myself for not making Nate go international before his price hike last year.   :biglaugh:

Sad to say but hunting got closed down in India but I am no stranger to the outdoors. Recently a few states, a couple of which are neighbouring ones, have reopened hunting of wild boar and in two cases, nilgai (blue bull) as well. Ol' Sus scrofa is what I will be targeting once I feel proficient enough. This is a slow process as I have no one to teach me apart from books and the internet but I am getting there gradually. I am currently on my second reading of Fred Asbell's latest book and it has helped a lot.

If and when you do make it to India, let me know.

Cheers.

Okie man

That Bama Hunter is a Hill style bow if I'm not mistaken.  There is a Howard Hill thread still going that started in January I believe. There is a lot of information there for your type of bow, lots of pictures of great hunting places, and great pics of some very nice bows.  You might want to check it out.  I think it is titled "HH bug bit me"  It's kind of odd that I can't remember the exact name since I look at it at least 10 times per day.
