I've never actually bought a used bow before but 5 or 6 months ago I found this Hollenbeck at Black Dog Outfitters in Sand Lake Michigan (now in Rockford, MI) and fell in love with it. Pawed it up every single time I stopped in as a matter of fact!

I recently moved and decided to pop in yesterday as their new location is now only 3 miles away from my house. It was still there and after an hour of shooting it, I HAD to have it and picked it up for practically nothing.

I'm a straight limbed longbow kind of guy but something drew me to it. The other oddity is that I prefer a 66" bow due to my 30+" draw and this is only a 60". Doesn't seem to pinch for me at all. It's an absolute naildriver at 56# and smokes a wood or 2018.

I couldn't be happier with it. Roger Hollenbeck really knew how to build a bow. It's a shame he isn't making them anymore. I wish I knew the story behind it!

Nick, Congradulations! If that bow shoots half as good as it looks you should be one happy camper. I am quite surprised that it did not get sold while you were workin up to it. Good pics...

Roger custom built me a longbow in 1997 and I sold it through the classifieds here 3 months ago as the draw weight got to be too much.  If it hadn't, I never would have parted with it as it was a top notch shooter and looker....but yours looks even better...guess I don't need to convince you to hang on to it!

Had one when I was just starting out. It was a well made bow, and I liked everything about it except that it was around twelve pounds too heavy for me. If I still had it, it would only be about five pounds too heavy.

Wow, is that a fantastic looking bow...

Very Nice...

Its 56lbs and I usually don not like a boe that heavy, man that thing is a sweet shooter does not feel like it is 56lbs. real cool handle on this bow, great purchase!

Thanks guys! I'm liking it for sure. Definitely a departure for me but I think it's going to be a great hunting bow. I can't believe no one scooped it up. Tom at BDO figures it is because of the poundage. He said 56# seems to be either a bit too light or a bit too heavy.

Oh well. I got an excellent bow as a result!

I would also like to know more about Roger. I did a search for him and found very little other than that he was a fine furniture maker and went back to doing so.

That is the last thing I read. Any further information would be much appreciated!!!!

Not sure...I found another forum that listed a gentleman who said he is his neighbor. I may try to get into touch with that guy via PM. I'd like to find out more about the bow...when it was made, what woods, etc.
