I received this Bear in trade,  just curious about the date of manufacture and approximate value.

It shoots real nice, and the limbs are straight,  plenty of honest hunting marks, and one area that some one felt compelled to scratch a "cross" into the riser (you can see in pics).

Trying to decide to refinish or sell etc....  thanks for any info, Matt

I think that cross is a factory stamp that means the bow was a display bow.  I would keep it, those old Bears are good bows and one in that condition is getting hard to find.  Bill

That poundage and that condition: looks like a keeper to me!!    But I'm easy...LOL !!

thanks for the info.  Bill,  where would i find info. or something about the cross being a factory mark?

It definitely shoots good,  and if/when i can establish a  value will likely move it on.....   just a longbow guy   ;)

May want to post this on Trad History and Collecting.  Beautiful bow.  I don't think it's a Kodiak Hunter though.  Looks like a Kodiak.  Do the silkscreens say Kodiak Hunter?

I wouldn't refinish it.  That bow looks to be in very good shape.  The writing appears original. It will likely be worth more not re-finished.

If you post on history and collecting you may want to post pics of the tips.

Many theories on markings like you have on that bow.  That one does not appear to be factory to me though.  Bowdoc or some of the other guys will know more.

SWEEET BOW for sure though.

That bow is a 1964 Kodiak. It's a sweet shooter, good hunting weight and desirable. No need to refinish it looks great. Most markings on the bows mean they were made at the end of the production year sold at a discount with no warranty.

Lamey

sounds good,  and i guess your right its a standard "Kodiak",   not sure why i posted it as a hunter,  heck i dont really know the differences!

Don't refinish unless you want to devalue it. It's a great weight and year and you should have no problem unloading it.

Will likely be listing it later tonight.

HAHA. No Browning could get between me and a Kodiak!!!

Some have said the '64 Kodiak (bow in your pics) was Papa Bear's favorite until his TD came along.

Though plain in appearance, these are wonderful shooters as most Bear "nuts" have already found out.

Bet it doesn't make it to being listed.   :D

You right about that,  its headed to PA, to some one will appreciate it more than me.

You sold a great bow. I have pretty much hung my '59 Kodiak up and replaced it with a '64 Kodiak

Oink.

It will get a good home! It will fill the empty spot on my rack where a '64 belongs.
