Well, the weather finally broke for a bit this morning from the rain.  After two hours of sleep I awoke my son because he called me at work the night before to ask if I was going turkey hunting.  I checked the weather and took Saturday off this morning and told him we were going.  We got to are spot at about 5:15a.m. and got all set up.  My son was napping when I woke him up to listen to the glorious sounds the gobblers around.  Even though it didn't seem like any were close, I still called very softly.  About five after six there was one bird that sounded like he was getting closer and fast.  I didn't call for about twenty minutes and I let out a few clucks and purrs and then saw a hen out the back as she clucked back.  Before I could turn around to look out the front my son was tapping me to look out front as a very nice bird was strutting directly in front of my dekes.  He then jumped all over my jake decoy, kicking and stepping all over him.  My son told me to hurry up and shoot, so I did and the rest is history.  I used a snuffer 160grain out of a Tall Tines recurve with some of my favorite douglas fir shafts.  He didn't go but five yards.  This hunt was even more gratifying having my son by my side.

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. TGMM ♥

Great Pictures, you have a wonderful memory that will never fade... your son will be in the woods someday with his son and have fond memories of your day.

Life is sweet.  He may forget you working to buy him stuff but he won't forget the hunting time with you.  My middle son lives close and he never said anything about stuff but he talks a lot about "remember when we were setting by the wheat and that big...   Yeah I remember too.

Congrats David, that's a nice bird.  Nice to see that your son was along for the hunt...I'm sure he was very excited...

My son(17) got his first archery gobbler in Ohio the first day of the regular season.  Were chasing em in PA now.

Great bird, and great hunt to share with your son!
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it's going to launch you into something great.
