I am planning to get a new bow and would really like to get something different.  I have had bocote and I have rosewoods, lace, cocobola.  give me some ideas and pics if you have them.

i saw a really cool tiger myrtle on here and really got me thinking that i need to see what else is out there.

thanks in advance,
Mike

I just ordered a Silvertip and am in the same boat so I have been thinking about wood combos all day.  I think a bacote stained charcoal riser with A strip of quilted maple veneer on the riser with the strip getting wider to where it's the same width as the riser where the limbs connect leading to a set of quilted maple limbs. I think the quilted maple overlays and limbs will bring out the beautiful grains in the charcoal stained bacote riser will bring the ivory like quilted mapel overlays and limbs out just as the ivory like quilted mapel will bring the charcoal stained bacote. With some nice custom checkering on the grip with antlers engraved around the checkering.  And to top it of some antler base knobs and antler tips......hmmm I think I just made my mind up..I'm gonna have to call Beth tomorrow and run this by her and Dave...so don't know if this helps or not but it's what I have visioned would look good....

Check out all the beautiful exotic wood combinations on the Rose Oak Creations website. Brandon Stahl makes some beautiful bows. You'll have to Google the site since I don't know if the link to the ROC site is allowed on TG.

If you want to look at a BUNCH of available woods, check out  www.gilmerwood.com

One that I don't think gets a ton of credit is chechem - makes a really pretty riser wood combined with a darker wood. Myrtle makes beautiful veneers

I totally disagree with 'centaur'.

Big Jim's slide show will have you viewing and viewing and reviewing and reviewing. I would be affraid to actually know the hours I have spent on his site. Now I have vastly increased my desireable options to twenty.

Beautiful works of art!!!

I just ordered a john mcdonald longbow. It will be a cocobolo riser with bamboo core wood and myrtle limbs. Myrtle is stunning.

LimBender

Wow Danny!  Never seen one like that Bacote and lemonwood.  That is some of the most figured (think that is right), beautiful Bacote I've ever seen.

In my opinion, anything with ebony or blackwood is sexy!

My favorite is probably bocote, especially if you can find some that is dark brown with black grain.  You said you want something more exotic though, snakewood.  Expensive, hard to find, but beautiful.  I have a Blacktail recurve on order, if I can save up enough I'm going for a Snakebit, Norms bow with snakewood in the riser.  I don't think I'm supposed to post a link, but he has a nice website with photos of his Snakebit model where you can see how beautiful this wood is.

I've been doing some risers  with katalox lately.  Very interesting, extremely dark brown, sometimes almost purple brown, even darker where it's under clear glass.  Works nicely and seems to take the glue well.  Here's an example that my friend Jesse did in my shop recently...
