I picked up a nice Bill Stewart MCTD Recurve/Longbow yesterday.  The bow has 62", 45#@28" Recurve limbs and 68", 60#@28" Longbow limbs.  I'll have to trade the Longbow limbs for a good bit lighter set of MCTD Longbow limbs, if I intend to shoot it.  Below is a pic of the bow.

Great bows ... I have shot some nice critters with mine. Bill was a very talented and innovative bowyer. Enjoy ....

Ken,

Thanks!  I previously owned an MCTD recurve built by Mr. Stewart.  It was 56" and 53#@28".  It was more bow than I could handle.  I've been looking for one ever since.  They don't show up in the classifieds very often.  This is the only one I've seen with 62", 45#@28" recurve limbs since I sold mine.  I'm happy to get it.

I've been shooting one of Bill's longbows since 1994.  Great shooting bow.

WildmanSC

Sam,

Do you know anyone that has a set of longbow limbs in the 45-47#@28" range that might want to trade them for a set of 60#@28" limbs?  :)

Bill, do you still have that multi-cam bow made by Roy Coursey, one of Mr. Stewart's pupils?

Bill Stewart bows have a loyal following here in the Northwest and it's tougher and tougher to find someone willing to part with one.

That's a fine looking bow! I like the design of those limbs too, they've got 'Serious Shooter' written all over them. Congrats Bill!

Lon,

No, I sold the bow Roy built for me.  It came out at 53#@28" and was too heavy for me.

I went turkey hunting Saturday and when I got home my wife had our two young granddaughters at the house.  So, I wasn't able to make it to The Archery Shop Saturday to pick up my Bill Stewart MCTD.  I'll be going to The Archery Shop during lunch today, can you say extended lunch (?), to pick it up!   :)

Sorry Bill, no I don't.
Mine isn't a takedown.

Bill or another! Can u confirm that both sets of limbs work off the same raiser? Was it the same for all his TD multicams or did he also produce a longbow raiser proper?

Wow those multicam limbs look like the Black Swan Wave limbs.

Mr. Stewart has been dead 5 0r 6 years.  I believe the Black Swan limbs look somewhat like the MCTD limbs.

Paul,

I haven't tried the longbow on the riser, yet.  The riser that came with the bow is the 18" recurve riser that Mr. Stewart built.  Below is a pic that shows the 14" and 18" recurve riser as well as the longer, maybe 24", longbow riser.  The limb angles for the 18" recurve and the 24" longbow riser appear to be the same or at least very nearly the same.

If you go to the following link, it will take you to Mr. Stewart's website.  It is still active even though he died 5 or 6 years ago, or so.

After receiving the bow and reading the literature that accompanied it, I've concluded that the longer riser was Mr. Stewart's Target bow riser.  The recurve and longbow hunter MCTD bows were both based on the 14" and 18" risers in the pic above.  Actually, the 18" riser measures 19-1/8" if it's measured from tip to tip.  However, if I measure from one half moon to the other on each of the plastic pieces on either end, it measures 18"!

The longbow limbs on the 18" recurve limbs yielded a 68" bow nock to nock as measured along the belly of the limbs and riser.  It would have been a longer bow with the longer longbow riser.  I have been offered a set of 66", 47#@28" MCTD longbow limbs which I think I'll be buying.

I'm getting ready to head to lunch.  While I'm out, I'll be sending a MO for the set of Bill Stewart MCTD Longbow limbs, 66", 47#@28", I was offered.   :)

Bill ... Glad you found some lighter weight LB limbs. I had found a lighter set for your draw but your limbs were too heavy for my hunting partner so he didn't want to part with them. His limbs are 50# and have the older single pin design...

Ken,

Thanks!  The limbs I found are the same design as the bow and limb combo I have.  I'm excited to find a set of limbs that are within my draw range.  I didn't expect to find them that quickly.

The owner of The Archery Shop put a Big Jim 59" string on my MCTD recurve.  I shot it about 4 times the day I picked it up.  I only shot 4 shots because I didn't remember to take my shooting glove with me when I went to work that morning.  My fingers just can't handle shooting a bow with bare fingers on the string.

This past Saturday I shot it quite a bit more.  Budro added some string silencers for me and I borrowed three of His Grizzly Stik Sitkas to shoot to see how the sound was.  It was very quiet shooting the Sitkas and shot the arrows like darts even with only a 45#@28" draw weight.  It is a great shooting bow.
