Bowfishing- Samick Recurve

I've read different comments on the Kingfisher, Jaguar and the Coyote, that weren't very favorable.
Been looking at the Samicks which seem very reasonable and folks seem to like them. Anyone use one for bow-fishing? I would be mounting an AMS retriever to it. Your thoughts are appreciated.

I have not used one for bowfishing but have shot several, the new ones like the Sage are very nice bows that perform well and actually are a very nice bow at any price. I believe you can buy one new for around $250 and the ones I shot performed as well as bows 3 times the price. I don't think you could go wrong with one, whether for bowfishing or hunting in general! Why not a Quinn? Great bows, American made, great price. I've used them for 3d, bowfishing, and hunting. What a value!

Samick makes a Red Stag for $189, that would be the way to go for a bowfishing rig! Shawn

I've read very good reviews on the Quinn, but I'm not sold on metal risers that can cause a bow to sink from a boat in a mishap. Something about the beauty of wood- even for bow fishing.

a takedown riser made of laminated wood, with the limb bolt hardware and a reel attached probably isnt going to float real well. if you are concerned about dropping it in the drink you could try a wrist sling I would go with the Quinn based on the great reputation they have as a fishing bow

I actually just traded for a Samick raiser. I'm was going to by the #45 Red Stag take down limbs. Thought I would use it as my "form" bow, but if it shoot well enough I may need to buy heavier limbs by hunting season.

Laminated bows don't float! I know!    The metal riser Quinn makes it easy to attach bowfishing accessories.

Good points made by all. I'll give the Quinns another look. I have a 30" DL, so I'd like to find something around 40-45# @ 60"-62" and don't want to buy new for fishing.

I'm not a big metal riser fan myself. BUT...I've never heard anything bad about a Quinn.

Samick Sage is around $130 and has inserts for all the items you would want to mount. If you buy a red stag you are going to have to drill the riser for the inserts.

I bowfish with a Sage.  It came with the stabilizer insert as well as sight inserts that you could use with your AMS.  I only have $125.00 bucks or so in it and it is a very nice looking bow and shoots great.  I almost feel guilty seeing it laying on the bank, covered in blood and fish scales, but that is what I bought it for last year. You can't go wrong with a Sage.

A friend on mine just bought a Sage for setting it up for bowhunting. We are getting together very soon for a "River Stalk". Will let you know how it turns out.

My bowfishing setup is a Samick Mountain Stalker with an AMS reel.  Can't wait to get it slimey this spring/summer!

I've been reviewing the Greatree bows today, Highlander and Osprey, which seem very similar to the Samick. Sound pretty good as well. Also come with inserts.

If you're looking for a simple fishing bow that's tough as nails, see if you can find a Bear 76er.

Go with the Sage from Lancaster/Tradtech...a great bow for a great price!!

I picked up a #55 Sage just for bowfishing. It shoots great, has the AMO bushings for mounting the AMS reel, and only cost $130. This is my first trad bow. I've become addicted to shooting it in the backyard and plan on using it on a cow elk hunt this September.

I would recommend it for an inexpensive bowfishing rig.
