I'm not the master, but I try hard. Outfitters have all the private leased here, public is the only way to go.

Izzy

Yes vtmtnman, Ive hunted Tibbits. I grew up in Troy and hunted all over Rennselaer county. Killed my 1st buck there come to think of it. I havent been there in years but my pal hunted there this year with his son and didnt see a tail. If you want some big woods hunting in that area try Berlin state forest. Beautiful country, loaded with bear, grouse, turkey and coyote.A few deer sprinkled in.Im betting a bear season will be held there soon.

Here in UT we have a lot of public. The difference for us between public and private is between limited entry and general season. Drawing a limited tag is like hunting private in a way. A lot less pressure and usually bigger bucks.
Here is a general season central UT muley.

Tracy it looks like you hunt close to where you live  ;)

Izzy-I've drove past it pretty much all my life but didn't know if it was any good.It looked like big woods but thought it may border some farmland or something.I got plenty of big woods local to hunt hgere in VT but wanted to get into NY this year.Going to stick to Washington county this year, probably around Cambridge or Hebron area, close to home.

Great pictures guys!  I feel blessed to have my own land to hunt on, but in my earlier years felt very fortunate to have some good public land available.

vtmtnman, if you ever want to hunt the Adirondacks let me know. Not a lot of deer but some awesome big woods to wander around in!

I had to sit there and watch my hunting bud miss two with a crossgun....they came in on "his" side of the blind

My 1st trad deer & it was on public land

About 2 weeks later I got this one on a different wma

This year I have seen around 30 deer on public land.  I have only had one shot and missed.

Still have until the end of Feb to try.

A few from SE Alaska.  Very lucky here with lots of public land.  Rare to run into anyone out there.  Starting to see a bit more pressure but still nothing like down south.  Shedrock we need to do a trade-a-hunt.

This picture is a repeat from a previous post but I think its pretty cool.

Some deadly guys here...WOW!

Jim...it was right at -10 F that day with the windchill. It really wasn't that bad. You're right about the Russia thing...never looked at it that way. It's been -40 here lately and keepin' me inside most of the time. These pics make staying inside a bit easier!

Rich,

I hunted the Cambridge area in Washington county the past few years. I have been fortunate enough to have a co-worker give me permission to hunt a farm.  There are dumb restrictions but I managed to kill my 1st NYS deer this year.

I have seen many many deer. They dont want spike bucks shot. the only buck I have seen that wasn't a spike was a 3 point that I thought was a spike, so I shot a doe.

So far in 2 years I have seen over 20 spike bucks.

-Great Pics everyone Public land deer are always a trophy deer.

-Bowspirit's deer is actually an incredible deer. He shot it during Rifle season with his bow in a place that was buck only and only holds .3 deer per square mile.  An incredible feat to say the least!
Relax,

You'll live longer!
