Ben... thanks, theres nothing quite like a rush of a boar hunt  :)

To answer your question.. yes they were shot with a bow.  Im brand new to traditional archery. I have not been hunting with trad archery tackle yet, still learning and fine tuning. So i thought i would make my first post here on the site of a couple boar i hunted with my wheelie bow.

(Ever since i picked up an old Bear Cub recurve I have never thought to going back to compound...It just feels right to hunt with a wooden bow and arrow... hard to explain) Soon i hope to obtain a Hill longbow

Ross....your pics were removed as we only allow trad bowkill pics here....and also, we don't allow canned hunts.

Yours wasn't the only one removed.

I hope you understand and continue to enjoy the site.

Also, guys...I few more were also removed before today....please try and remember the title of the thread....BIG hogs, not medium hogs, not 'the kind I like to eat' hogs, not 'my 1st kill with a so and so' hogs.  Lets keep to the title please.

Thanks........   :campfire:

Around here the dog hunters will often collect the tails when they catch a pig.  Sometimes they take his nuts.  Other times they notch an ear. It's their way of marking a pig showing its been caught before. I've also seen the dogs bite the tail off or an ear..reckon it could happen to a tail too.

Here is the pic from my trail cam(the drum in this pic is a 30 gallon drum).  Ignore the time signature.  I lost my cable and remote for resetting the time.

Shot this huge guy last April, and here is the pic of the dog and the hog right after we found it.  Went over 400 pounds. The dog is a german shepherd that weighs 90-95#, for reference, but the pics don't do it justice.

What do you guys listen for when looking for these pigs?  I know the basic sign to look for but do they make much noise?  When working a creek bed or area where you have found sign....what else can tell you if they are close?   Thanks,

We trapped hogs and made barrows out of the smaller boars.  Before releasing we docked their tails so they could be identified as barrows, which eat a great deal better than boars.   :)

Darwin Morris with a 185# weighed boar taken with a 45# recurve.  Darwin has MS but works hard to continue hunting.  I've known and hunted with Darwin for about 25 years.  MS or not, Darwin is the one I want with me working a blood trail.  He is a really good tracker.  This boar was down in sight so my services weren't needed.   :)

My LORD fellas, these are not hogs....they're American Rhino's.  They're HUGE.

I have been chomping at the bit to get out and try my hand at it.  Now I'm in Texas, I should be able to give it a try in the next couple of months.  I don't know much about it at all so I have to learn by reading and talking to others.
Since a lease is out of the question for me in the near future, I am going to be using the PUBLIC land system here in the great state of Texas.  More than likely Granger or San Houston.

I don't know what I'd do if one of these monsters was coming right at me.  I hope I have the courage to loose the string and drop one.  I LOVE this thread.  Thank you all for posting your pics and stories.

Keep 'em coming.
