Thought I would share a pic of me and My wife after a recent horse back stump shoot.

It was taken by a young 16 year old neighbor girl who takes wonderful pics.

How does the horse react to the sound of the bow? My horses freak out when i shoot around them. They are Andalusians so they are a little high strung.

Our Horse Spunky is great. He will let you shoot off his back.

Shan, It took a lot of Work desensitizing them. Also
you have to go with 2 people like we do because otherwise getting off every time you shoot gets old.

Haha! I'd imagine getting on an off would get pretty tiresome for you and the horse.

I'll keep working with Chespa and see if I can get her used to it.

So far I haven't tried shooting while mounted. She used to buck and run around a lot at first but nowadays she just tosses her head and flinches a little.

Have not tried mounted shooting yet though! Let alone bareback.

Trophybow1 does some mounted shooting on youtube... he is crazy good

Our horse is a freezer. when he spooks he usually just flinches and drops an inch. I would never try it on a bolter.

He is 15 and more and more less and less bothers him. It helps hat we board him next to the gun club so sudden loud noises do not phase him.

Usually when I walk in front his nose is messing up all my fletching as he keeps his head in my back.

Usually when I am walking and shooting he will give my arm a nudge just as I go to release. And he is quite curous so he likes to get next to me to see what I am shooting at. (i'm sure that's not why but I like to think it)and gets in the way of the shot.

I often see deer while on the trail with him, they dont seem to mind our presence but we cannot hunt the neighbors property.

CR this is off the charts! I'm working w/Honeymoon our 4 y/o Palimino Walker to shoot off her back. Ruth & I see deer often while riding but never a hog yet. Sign everywhere. Cover some ground from the saddle! Your horse is a stone cold beaut!

I'm spoilt, our best saddle horse has been bomb-proofed from civil war reinactments, you can fire a black powder .44 off his back and he doesn't even wiggle. The bow doesn't even raise his ears. Fun stuff, for sure.

The whole thing came about by accident. My wife is actually the real horse person but we found a way we both can do what we love and spend time together.

Hog hunting by horse back? That would be great, just go out trail riding until you find a place to make a stalk.

That would be a great day for a couple of people.

We might be dancing around the same flagpole. I'm not so interested in riding horses either just for riding's sake. Looking for game animals is a different story. You can really get my attention bowhunting from the saddle. I'll get some pix of the spoiled rotten fairhaired mare tomorrow.

Awesome pics! My fiance rides all the time and most of the time has deer let her ride by at 15yds or less. She has some cell pics of really nice bucks. I keep saying we have to get the horses used to shooting while mounted, so i'd go with her more often!

Did alot of riding in my younger days. I would love to get back on horses but time, money, and space required no in the cards. Maybe after I retire from my jobs I will be able to convince the wife it is a good idea.

Thats cool stuff. We ride bird hunting here and in KY and TN. My old field trial/hunting walker would let ya shoot off his back. Bows did not bother him but the sudden close jumping deer or hog would get a pretty good side step from him.

You wanted to see so here's the little heifer! She's spoiled & I did it! Ever have a horse groom you? They nibble w/their teeth & lick. Gotta be pretty trusting to keep from losing a pound of flesh. We bonded. She's a treat. Ever this way CR let me know.
