I thought my traditional days were over because the doctor that I WAS going to told me to quit hunting with my bows because of the pain I was having due to my major operation on my stomach; they removed over 60% of all my insides and told me to not bow hunt especially with traditional bows; I thought about buying a low poundage compound and went as far as to go to the "pro shop" and try my hand with a new compound; as soon as I pulled one back, I handed the bow back to the store owner (who by the way was extremely nice)and told him thank you for your time but I just can't buy the bow;

Went to a specialist and started rehab on my entire body retraing it to do normal activities; I did not get to bow hunt this past season at all and that alone liked to have killed me but I took my doc's advice and stayed with the program;

I am VERY happy to announce that I am doing better than ever and yesterday I was able to draw and shoot(1 arrow) out of a 45 lb longbow and when I did I cried like a newborn baby; it will take the rest of the spring and summer to get back to where I can hunt with a longbow but it's coming;

Please pray for me when you run out of things to pray for; thanks for letting to post again; God bless all......Barry James aka arkansaslongbow
May the sun always shine bright on your path and the wind be in your face

Barry,
It is nice to meet you here.  Especially glad to hear you are on the road to recovery.  I can't imagine going through a surgery like you have but I can imagine not being able to shoot an arrow.

Seems there is never a time where we will run out of things to pray for...because good people will come here and allow us to help shoulder the burdens.

It is my pleasure to intercede with full expectation of your victory....keep shootin!!     :thumbsup:

Sounds like your over the hump and have a smooth road ahead, heck you made it this long and only shot one arrow, I would be looking forward to rehabbing so I could shoot another and another. Keep your head up and heal well brother!!!

We all take for granted how lucky we are to have good health.  Not until dealing with something like you are do we realize what health problems can really mean and what we have to lose.

Glad to hear that you are over the hump, and hope and pray that the remainder of your road to a full recovery is much smoother!

Barry, Prayers for you and yours. Heal up, take it slow and steady. After an motorcycle accident in 1991, I was told that I would never be able to shoot any type of bow again. But I now shoot 54# @ 27" and down, have shot up too 70 arrows at one time. A little extreme , but you can do it. God Bless Don

In April of 2008 I had a total knee replacement. In May of 2008 I had to have surgery on another part of my body. In Dec of 2010 they had to take out the new knee, and install a temporary knee while fighting infections. In Jan 2011 I had a another knee installed. I am now doing re-hab. Everyone in good health should appreciate their health. I use to think I was a tough guy, after these operations, my thinking has changed. Pain hurts! It is no fun to be restricted in your activities, unable to do what you want to do.
Right now my goal is to be able to walk well enough to attend the Texas Shootout in March.
If you are healthy, be happy.
