Stacy L. Groscup bow

I have a Stacy L. Groscup signature recurve bow that a friend is wanting to sell me. I need help here, there are no identifying marks on the bow other than the signature. He has had it several years and still does'nt know much about it. Any ideas about a mfgr. It still shoots solid, no limb twists, a few nicks here and there. If I buy it, it will need some tlc, probably need a complete refinishing. I would not be scared of it, just don't want to sink to much time or money into it if it's not worth it. He's asking 300.00 for it. What do I need to look for?

Do you have any photos? For some reason I want to say bob Thompson built a bow for Stacy groscup

Anyway I could be having sometimers disease but if you put up a pic I'll bet you get a definitive response

I did a quick search and found this. It is a Stacy Groscup signature bow made by Bob Thompson, who I believe was former owner of Zipper bows. Curious if this looks like your friend's bow...Mike

I vaguely remember seeing a bow sold (doubt if it was made by them) Golden Eagle. It could very well be the same bow I pictured above. I remember it being in the Golden Eagle catalog after I saw one of his demonstrations...Mike

I have a Stacy Groscup Zipper built by Bob Thompson.

If I remember correctly Bob said it was a 1993 model.....Bubinga & Curly Maple riser just like the bow pictured.

OK, from what I've been reading the bow pictured was, in fact, made by Bob Thompson of Zipper bows and marketed and sold by Golden Eagle. No specific dates, but it was stated that it was around 1990. Sounds about right, as I know I wasn't shooting traditional yet, and his demo really got me started on my journey. I got my first curve for Christmas in 1992 (I was 16). Sorry for so many posts, but your question triggered some very fond memories...Mike

Yep Zipper built them. I think they were built into the late 90s. At least 97 or so...

I remember Stacy coming to Denton Hill back then shooting asperin out of the air and telling people about the goodness of Jesus!

They have it right.The bow was built by Zipper Bows (Bob Thompson),for Golden Eagle.There were 50 of them built.They started building them in 1990 or 1991.They are all the same, strait lams of curly maple and Bubinga.Everyone I have seen has had black locust limbs.They were available in 60" or 62".Although most I have seen were 62".

They were definitely built by Zipper Bows. I have one that I bought in 1994.It is no.31, 60", and 61# at 28". I bought a new pair of 43# limbs for it earlier this year as I can't handle the heavier limbs anymore. Dave

Thanks for all the help! It does favor the pic. As there was a limited run is $300 out of range or a steal? It could us some tcl, but I really like the way it shoots.

when I saw him I thought he was using a GN ghost with the normal broomstick grip,, I'm almost positive I saw that Pine tree logo on the limb and he was shooting airials.

There was one of his signatures bows at an archery shop by me back in the early 90's. It had Staceys name on it and I think number 9 of 50. It sat there for years. Then I met Stacey at the Edison Sportsman show in NJ. After that I went back to buy it and it was gone. Missed out on that one.
