had a really good hunt this evening. Did`nt kill a deer but did have a 6 pt at 8 yards for the second evening in a row.Yesterday I heard a deer coming through fast and as I stood up my knee "popped" loudly and spooked the deer. I have sat this crossing 5 times and have seen 4 different bucks and no does.7 coons,a possum and this evening I saw a bobcat.

I was leaned back enjoying the evening and there were squirrels scattered throughout the bottom. Two were chasing each other up and down and around a water oak about ten yards away. One went to the ground and I was thinking about sending an arrow after him when all of a sudden there was a racket and a brown "blur" goes to the squirrel on the ground and up the tree after it as well. I am in shock. I`ve never seen any critter move this fast in the woods. The squirrel barely makes it out alive and the cat is at about ten yards away and eye level.I`ve killed a few Bobcats and have one mounted in the front room for a door greeter and really don`t care to shoot this one. I`m wanting one more deer for the year. He spots me and slides on down the tree and leaves.

I sit back realizing I have just witnessed a real hunter at work. I was really listening as I was watching the squirrels because this is a very hot creek crossing and the deer will come through and be gone in seconds it is very thick as well. Point is the cat exploded on his rush for the squirrels almost under my tree and I never heard him sneak in.The leaves are dry as we have not had any rain in a while .Truly a Blessing from God to see such as this.

I did see the buck but no other deer and even without getting any meat this will be a hunt I`ll likely never forget.Thank You Lord.RC

thats cool, ive still yet to see bobcat in the woods.

Bocats are scary cool. Watched one on a squirrel last year.  It missed like yours but it was really cool.

Bobcats are so cool. They are real scarce in Illinois although their numbers are growing. In 20+ seasons I've only seen 3 of them.

You are truly a blessed man RC.

I wish our temps would give me a little break here.

I about froze my finger tips day before yesterday(or was it yesterday?) Anyway I learned not to put frozen fingers in front of the air vents as all it did was increase the pain..lol

No point in being stupid if you don't show it right?

Thanks for sharing your hunt with us RC.

Usually takes consistency & numerous kills under your belt before another level of maturity sets in. Killing animals & good shots are fun & part of the hunt; but, when you can appreciate the wonder of the woods, you'll never leave emptyhanded. You've known a long time. Maybe what makes your posts so good.

Great story. Its amazing what you will see in the woods.

Kinda cool to tuck that exprience away and then replay it later in your head later. It lasts for years.

Thanks for telling us about it.

Your recantation of the story came with a HD picture, stereo sound and a ring side seat as the events unfolded.

These kitties have also walked by me thru dry leaves w/o making a sound - leaving me perplexed.

I truely admired your focus on embelishing the moment and not taking the cat just because it was an opportunity.

Much obliged for you sharing these extraordinary moments. This event will be stored in shared memory.

Thanks for sharing that. I'm not seeing the deer like I used to here, blue tongue nearly wiped'em out a few years ago in this region (making a comeback however)lots of other game to keep me occupied though... I would love to see a bobcat, they're around and I hear them at times. I used to kneel or just stand motionless for long periods but the older I get the harder that is. Finally made the Torges tree seat. Its nice but I miss the freedom and of only having to carry a bow.....Phil
