Found this guy yesterday while doing a little midday scouting.

Gross scores 171" I believe someone shot at him while he was crossing the road last year and just never looked for him very hard. I found the whole skeleton and that of a doe also.

Wow!  I usually turn up something sad when bunny hunting brushlots but never anything like that!

I did find a nice eight-point skull, rack and hide in a plastic trash bag once.  Doubtlessly poached.

I don't usually find stuff like this either. I got lucky here, I just happen to stop for a break. All that was sticking out of the grass was the tip of the main beam and the G-4. I just about stepped on it! I thought it was a shed antler. Imagine my surprise when I pulled it out of the grass.

That one needs to be preserved. You might consider doing a European mount if the skull is in decent shape. Alberta grows'um big for sure. Congrats on your find.

what a cool find, no doubt there are others of his stature lurking about. very impressive

I certainly hope so, I'm setting up a treestand near where I found him when I get back out there tomorrow!

That is incredible,I hope you are hunting that area hard.

Nice.

What makes you think that the buck was shot?

I must think differently. Being near a road my first thought would have been both deer may have been hit by vehicles and ran into the timber and died.
