Hey guys, I just purchased my first bow and am super stoked! It is a Ben Pearson Cougar #48 from the 70's. It's in great shape and I can't wait to shoot it. However I have to buy a string for it. The bow is marked as 62" but is does not say AMO next to it. Was there a different way of measuring bows back in the 70's or should I assume that 62" is its AMO length? I just don't want to put the wrong string on it.
Thanks everyone- I am so excited to be the owner of a bow even though it is one that was mass produced. "This is my bow, there are many like it but this one is mine. With out me, my bow is useless. With out my bow, I am useless."

John, it takes a 58" string.I have two Person Cougars. If you can't find one, pm me. I will find or make one.  Robert

Thanks Robert, for the info. Can you explain to me the math or process involved in figuring out a 62" pearson cougar gets a 58" string?
Thanks again and thanks for the offer to help me find one.

A recurve takes a string 4" less than the AMO length and a longbow takes one 3" less.

Gerardo

I shoot a cougar, 50# @28, and it's a really nice shooting bow. there was a little hand shock till I got the brace height right. it's at 7 3/4".
