Thanks for providing this opportunity for my 700th post!  That is one of the coolest pictures I've ever seen!  I think the bear is trying to determine the nimrod's blind spots so he knows where he can tip-toe and where he has to book it!

 looks like a good ambush point, may be the only way he can catch a sow, with her nose in a bait barrel. looks like he's "standing" his ground.
