? about Stu Miller's calculator

I know this may sound like a dumb question but when it asks about shaft length does it mean from the valley of the nock to the back of the point or does it mean the actual length of the shaft BEFORE a nock is put on it or in it. ( I did a search but I didn't find the answer)  Thanks
