I got a call saying that the only thing left on my bear rug is to put the felt on. I don't know what colors to get. I would like two colors one of them being black. My dad has charcoal and black so I don't want that choice. What do you recommend? I am thinking a brown that is the same color as the nose then black. It is the hide off of a 260 pound bear with nice black fur. Thanks

ckanous

Just curious but what is it for, the bottom side?

Cobie33

I had mine done in black next to the hide and maroon/deep burgundy on the bottom and it look great.

What does it cost to get a bear hide done?

I'm a taxidermist but have the sewing done by someone else.My rugger had suggested the burgundy and black so we did several. They looked real nice. The charcoal sounds good as would brown or tan.I'm not big on the red or green that some do.

Dark brown and black. The dark brown looks good with the brown of the nose, at least I think so.

Red Boar

I saw one done in burnt orange...set off the black hide very nicely.

I never have liked the traditional reds and greens that are commonly used.

I went with black and black...  The taxidermist shook his head when I said that, but had to agree that it looks really good.

Add me to the list of folks that don't like red and green.   Never liked it and cannot figure out why it is so popular.

Always been a fan of the black as it makes the hide look bigger, but I would like to see the maroon and black.

IMO don't do this   http://www.billsbearrugs.com/bear/fm0326.jpg    That ruffle is horrible.

This site does a nice job and seems to match the color of the bear to the felt.   http://www.cdnantler.com/bearrug.html

Do some googlin' you will see what you want.

I picked black and a golden bronze/brown color. Not the best pic of my bear but shows the colors.

I have seen some beautiful rugs with one of the felt colors being red...

Both of mine are done in black. It really looks nice and big. My taxidermist gave me a weird look when I told him I wanted black.

My bear is still roaming somwhere in Canada but I would have yellow against the hide and black on the outside.  I just like yellow.

What kind of felt?  No felt, it picks up every little piece of lint and hair in the house.  I'd go for felt backing with a nice smooth leather border.  I had a kudu backskin done like that and it's been great so far.

Black and red on my bear i like it. TD.
