It looks like I will be giving up on my trad gear for a while.  I do wish it was because of something like target panic, aka flinching, or a really bad problem with my bow arm.  Truth be told, I just can't hit anyhing with my trad gear any more.  Heck, I can't hit anything with anything!  I just got out of surgery having the tendons reattached in my right elbow.  :scared:    Yes it hurts even with the pain meds.  The docs are saying recovery will be anywhere from four to six months.  :help:

Wouldn't hold it against you even if you had to make the switch totally back to wheels.

I had torn elbow tendon surgery May 22nd of last year.  I was shooting 50# recurve by Sept.  I started with a 20# Little Bear, a 30# target bow and progressed to a 41# hunting bow, 45# hunting bow and eventually back to 50#.  Can shoot 55# with ease now.

Recovery took about 12 weeks with PT and all and after that I did my own at the gym.

You may surprise yourself.

You don't need 65-75# bows. That'll just tear you up anyway. Get well soon.

Drop your high end bow weight and do the light to heavier shooting steps noted above.  I bet you can hit 40 lbs by hunting season.  With damage already having occured I would stop at 50 or 55lbs and give your body a break.

Pete you did leave the 35lb training bow here in Florida. You want me to get it back from "you know who" I could drop it off on my way to Maine in July.

Worst case, your my camera man this year.

Good luck with whatever method you use to get back in shooting shape.

I had a shoulder operation in February a few years ago and was hunting in May of that same year. I realize that it was not the same operation, but I managed to get back by starting with a kid's bow and working my way up. I used a light but legal bow that spring season.

You truly have a traditional heart when you feel that you have to let other traditional people know that you need to rehab with a compound. Do what is necessary, only you know how your arm feels...
May your next adventure lighten your heart, test your spirit, and nourish your soul.

Hope you have a full and speedy recovery. Shoot what you can until you can shoot what you want.

good luck with a speedy recovery .pt is a great resorce and i think you can get back in shape before u know it .just work up from the light weights like others have said . 65/75 is really overkill . i used to shoot that and more but it just didnt make me any beter of a shot /hunter/man to shoot that weight.

i am getting much better with lighter and ill be going lighter yet as i feel it could better me in many ways.
form is everything! shoot well shoot hard.

The great thing about archery is there are so many options...I get tired of people saying that you can't shoot a compound or you can't shoot a crossbow.  I shoot everything and enjoy them all!!! I shoot tradition 65%, 25% compound, and even shoot the dreaded cheater(crossbow) when it's very cold!!  Thank god for choices!!! You should shoot whatever works for you and whatever you enjoy. Go with a crossbow until you heal up!

Mudd

I had to do that for part of a season. I even had to use a draw lock too.

If you think a draw lock would be helpful send me a pm. I'd sell it cheap since I no longer need it.

God bless,Mudd
