What it means to me is, I get to go to Kodiak to hunt Brown Bears. It isn't the best tag to draw but it is a tag and chance at a Kodiak Bear. Wish me luck.  :D

Congradulations,have a great hunt!

If you get one, DB228 would make a real cool license plate with a bear paw after it.
Good luck

Aim true, and lay down after the shot so your back up has clear shooting to the bear!  We will wait for the story.

Olin,

Back in the day I hunted Sitka blacktails most every year in the SW portion of Kodiak, about the same time as your fall season.  Do you have a portion of the island picked out?  I don't know if DB228 limits you to a specific portion of the island or if you can go anywhere you wish.

Bottom line - we never encountered bears on streams because by that time most salmon runs were well and truly over.  Even the chums were long gone.  Perhaps there may be some streams carrying runs of silvers then (and maybe that's where you'll be hunting).  But if not the you'll need to look for the big boys up in the mountains eating fall grasses and marmots.   About as far from your point of access as possible is where you'll find them based on my experience.

I envy your opportunity.  Good luck!

Congrats!  My brother in law is an outfitter up in AK and I've gotten to see some of the hunts he's helped guide on Kodiak-look forward to your story  :)
