Well, I have been struggling to kill a pig this year. Had porkers under 20 yards several times in Jan and Feb but no pork. Had pork close since Turkey season has been in and no shots but today....

Started out as a late morning Turkey hunt at Fort Stewart. I walked roads and firebreaks with no action. I decided to head over to the honey hole and look for some pork .

Passed this pit that had a couple of Lake Lizards sunning....

Stopped for a minute to snap a pic of a mighty purty place...

Parked under a couple of old live oaks at what I think was an old "Home " place. The roads are awful so I drove my old jeep today...

This feller had crossed the road headed in the bottom and I did`nt know at the time but we would meet later...

I know that "mighty purty place", but I don't think it's open for hogs!   :)  Get on with the killin' tale!
I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables!

I eased into the bottom and was looking at all the blooms and pig sign most everywhere. I snapped a couple of pics of some purty flowers and such..

I got to the edge of a fairly open rise and a Turkey hammered. It was only maybe 100 yards away. I quickly got my gloves and mask on and looked for a spot to set up. I got behind two big trees and had some bushes to my back. I decided to stand till I saw what he would do. Its been my experience that a bird that gobbles Mid Day will usually come on in. I think he heard me walking and sounded off at that in the beginning. I let out a few soft clucks and he jumped on it. I yelped right back and he interupted me..rude joker..lol.  I could here him walking and caught movement to my left. I was set up perfect to shoot on that side. He hit an opening at 18 yards and I MISSED!!! Shot just over his back.Public land Birds down here don`t give fellers that can`t shoot another chance so I started hunting for my arrow. It surely was bent or something....

Never did find the arrow. I checked the time and it was 2:20. Heard the bird and had him close enough to MISS in under 5 minutes.Sent my Buddy MudFeather a text about the deal cause even though I missed it was a whole lotta fun.I`m shooting his Wesley till my Cheetah gets here in a few weeks. Love them Hill bows.

I made a loop thinking I may find some pork and was yelping every little while when I heard a big limb break. Then I heard some water slosh and some grunting..oh yeah..

I glimpse the porkers in the edge of the swamp where its kinda thick. I check the wind and back out and almost run to get in front of them. I ease into the drain and start for the pork. I begin to see them headed for me so I decide to wait it out. I`m kneeled down in some tall grass...prime cottonmouth ground and got my eye on a nice sow headed my way. At 15 yards she turns sideways and the Wesley Special does what its supposed to do. I see feathers dissappear and hogs go everywhere. I thought there were maybe 4 or 5 but there were two or three times that.Everything calms and I ease over to check for sign. I was in grass and leaning over steep from my knees with the bow horizontal to keep from getting busted . Not your standing in the yard kinda shot but It went bout where I was looking..

At the scene

 A closer look...

And about 60 yards away..a fine sow. Killed with Mudfeathers 66" 53@27 Wesley Special..thanks Brother and a 2016 with a homemade single bevel Magnus I broadhead.Death and destruction.

The Good Lord continues to bless me and I thank him for it.RC
