Extreme Bow Makeover and Giving it a name

A couple of years ago I purchased a bow from Joe Coots thinking it would be just a good bow to beat around in the brush with. Little did I know that it would become the main bow that I shoot. I shot my first ever Robin Hood with it. It is a Saxon Kadiak which is a knock off of a 1959 Bear Kodiak. I took the bow with me to Texas and hunted with it out there, as well as south Georgia. After shooting it a while I noticed the finish was cracking and flaking off so I decided to remove the finish and have it re-done.

Myself, being one that grew up watching Bonanza "real TV worth watching in my opinion" thought how good it would be to give the bow a name after one of the Cartwright boys. Since them Cartwright boys and Joe Coots all seem to be men of outstanding character and integrity I have given it the name of "Little Joe".
I will be taking it South this weekend to have it refinished. I will post pictures of it with the finish all off hopefully tomorrow and then with it refinished the first of next week. I can't wait to get it back and use it again

Aww shucks CJ, yer just buttering me up for my next bow sale. One of the few bows I sold that I still miss. That sure was a sweet shooting lil stick with just about the most perfect grip a feller could ask for. Looking forward to seeing your re-newed bow. And remember, if you ever sell it, I still get first refusal!

Early '60s, named a newborn quarterhorse "Bonanza" after that show. When he turned 2 yo, I could ride him, nobody else could. We fit. Hope you the same good luck with your bow as I had with that horse. Pics please.

Just think you can buy a few more bows and name them,

Ben, Hoss, Adam, Hop Sing and Jamie Hunter.
That should give you a little arsenal.

Well it took a little longer than I figured, but it was only due to my preping the bow. What I thought was cleaned up good enough only brought a grin and a shake of the head from Marty "Apex Predator". There was no way that he was going to finish my bow in the condition I gave it to him in. I guess that is the reason he and other bowyers build them and I shoot them. What I figured was good enough to spray would never make it with Marty. Then again I probably should have known this by just looking at the finish he places on the bows he builds and the quality they are.
Well here is "Little Joe" with his new finish.
I took it out back and shot it this afternoon and man did it ever feel good back in my hand. I love these 59 Kodiak replicas. If things were different I'd do everything in my power to win that 59 that Bow Doc has refinished and is going to place in the St. Judes Auction. The grips on these style bows are unbelieveable.

I am not the best at taking pictures.

Marty sprayed a flat non glossy finish on the bow it appears to be tough as nails.

I can't wait to get it back in the woods

Now you can say it LOOKS as good as it shoots! That's one of the few I miss...tak good care of it
