I am going to order a Howard Hill Archery Tembo later this week and am trying to decide on riser wood, leather wrap, and lam colors. Boy this is a hard decision. If you have a Tembo pic, please post! I'd like to see them.

Sorry, I can't help, unless you'd like to see photos of my Wesley Special (it has two more lams than the Tembo)?

No pic, but I have been thinking of just that bow. I plan to order one with a cocobolo riser and gloss finish, black glass, no limb tip overlays.

I been thinking about a Tembo myself but man them Cheetah`s look nice...RC

Here's one for you in Ebony with black glass. It's the one on the left.

Tembo's are really sweet shooters and are the favorite of a lot of Hill guys especially in the lower weights! Good luck with yours!

Spanky, that Ebony/black glass/straight grip Hill of yours is maybe my favorite combo for a classic Hill-style look.  I had a 68", 53#er just like that one some years back (except it was a Big Five) and kick myself every time I think of having sold it.     :knothead:

SpankyNeal

I know what you mean Tony...I had to let that one go too! I'm going to order another though to replace it very soon!

I "feel your pain", Magwa.  I ordered my second Wesley about three weeks ago and I'm starting to run to the window every time I hear a truck go past my my farm....       --Bob Wilson

SpankyNeal, I like your Tembo. I am a lower weight shooter and don't think that is going to change much. The "Tembo" is the oldest model in the HH Archery line. The way the inner lam goes back over the riser is pretty cool. lpcjon2, thanks for the link! The "Halfbreed" almost makes me think twice, but I am going to go with the "Tembo" for now.

A Tembo is at the top of my list for my next bow purchase.  I have decided to go with black glass but cannot make up my mind between Myrtle or Chechen for the riser.  Oh well, deciding is half the fun!

How do the Tembo's shoot compared to a Wesley or Big Five?

I have Wesleys,Big Fives and a Cheetah but I have never shot a Tembo.

SpankyNeal

Frank it's hard to pin down, but IMHO the Tembo seems to have less thump in the hand at the shot and feels a little smoother to me on the draw - it's just a different feel if ya know what I mean. Having more bamboo than glue compared to the other bows makes a difference I think. They're just sweet shooters!

My Tembo has black glass backing over carbon, bocote riser and clear glass over the bamboo belly. It is hands down the best bow I have ever owned or shot(out of more than 20 odd makes and models). I also owned a Cheetah and a Halfbreed, but I like the Tembo the best - very forgiving of shooter error.  Sorry, I've never figured out the picture thing on this site, but I do have some pictures I could e-mail.
And in the end of our exploring we shall return to the place where we started and know that place for the first time.
