I know another favorite thread.  I'm just curious what is your favorite bow grip and why.  What bowyer makes a standard grip that you like without asking for changes.

I like a thin locator grip with a very slight palm swell.  Thanks in advance.
It's not the arrival, it's the journey.

Locator with a medium palm swell. BW fits me well.

On my longbows (not hybrids) I prefer a straight grip only slightly rounded on the sides and a tear drop shape on the belly side.  Once you get used to those they are hard to beat.
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.

I still remember the first time I held one of Dave Windauer's bows in my hand.  The grip sold me, right off the bat.

Onehair

Shrew followed by any other bow with a Shrew grip.

White knuckled seems to be the one I go to most often in the field, LOL. seriously, I like a slightlly lower than medium grip with a narrow palm swell- most of mine are altered to resemble a '63 Kodiak grip.   GY

Mine is a straight that is asymmetrical towards the the bow hand and straighter on the side away from the hand side of the bow.  It gives me the traction of a sharper grip without the discomfort. It looks like a standard straight grip, but when you grab it with the other hand, you definitely know you have the bow in the wrong hand. It is very difficult to explain it to a bowyer, I only have that grip on my own bows. A shallow arched depression would be my second choice.

I tend to like a medium grip or a little less than medium in a curve or hybrid TD bow with  a shallow palm swell.  I also like a pronounced locator grip on LBs.  My favorite boyer standard grips are:

MOAB
Black Widow standard
Firefly
Shrew

GMMAT, I have heard those are nice grips.  They are on my bows to shoot list.  I like how the Tolke classic grip looks as well.
It's not the arrival, it's the journey.

Grant, Love your first answer.  It may not be the prefered grip, but it's one shared in common with many of your fellow hunters!
If it isn't life or death, it's no big deal.

Tim Fishell

Shrew hands down for me.  I love the palm swell that buldges a little to the side towards the shelf and then the thumb ridge on the opposite side.  It is impossible to toque that grip and my hand falls in just like a hand shake!!  :)

I like a thin low grip because i have small hands. My Widow PSA X grip is perfect.

Wally, for me, I learned the only way to get a grip I was perfectly happy with was to have the maker send me the riser unfinished and I worked the grip to where I wanted it then sent it back to him for final finish.

If you're askeered of whittlin (trust me, the first couple are nail biters, but then it gets easier), the best "stock" grips for me have been Morrison med/low and low, any Super Shrew, and Habu Death Adder.

Or, if you could just tell Bob "JC's grip"  ;)

That grip on your bow is sweet JC.  For a 3-peice that would be my pick.  There is just something special about a thin leather wrapped locator.  A shrew grip is one of my favorites as well.
It's not the arrival, it's the journey.

I'm 50/50 split between a Morrison High Cheyenne grip & a Border medium.
I generally prefer as high a grip as I can get, finger grooves are a nice bonus too, as long as they fit well.
Conversely I also love the Shrew grip, which just goes to show.......something I guess.

For me, the #2 grip on the Bear Take downs and older compounds is the best grip.

I like the straight Hill grip.  The small TD sleeve is pretty good with just a thin leather wrap, but if the riser is wood I like a little narrower and deeper than the TD sleeve. A slight dish is OK but the radical locator, palm swell type don't work for me.
And in the end of our exploring we shall return to the place where we started and know that place for the first time.
