Crawled up in my tree at a bright and early 7:20 am this morning (20 minutes after daylight) and as soon as I pulled up the bow I heard a deer coming.  A 1 1/2 yr old 3 X palmated 2 came cruising down the hill and walked right in.  I suppose he heard me walking in and was checking out the noise.  He milled around fooling with a scrape in front of the stand on an old logging road at 10 yards or so for a few minutes then started looking behind me.  Shortly I heard another deer approaching with the typical mature buck strutting walk from behind and coming fast.  There is a strip of brush maybe 50 yards wide then a standing cornfield behind the stand and I expected morning movement to be from the field into the timber.  Anyway, I could hear him coming through the brush but could not see him until he crossed a small stream 15-20 yards or so away.  As soon as he broke cover there was no doubt he was a shooter.  I only got a couple seconds to look him over - immediate impression "Holy Widerack"...well "Holy Something" anyhow - and he had a corn stalk complete with ear wrapped up in his horns.  I shot him as he passed me at about 6 yards and the big Snuffer took out the ticker.  He was down in 60 yards or so.  Katia and I put our weiner pup Oskar on the track and he followed it up, had some confusion as the blood trail was about 5 feet wide and he wasn't sure if it went north/south or east/west at times.  He's a mature buck - 4 1/2 yrs old or better - 23 inches inside spread and 245 lbs with the guts in.  Used my old trusty 64lb BW MAII riser / MAIII limbs.  Guess I'm on doe patrol now!

No IA draw 'till year after next (I drew last year).  Nothing down on the farm in IA yet but a couple meat does.  Fairly crummy rut all over the Midwest best as I can tell.

Nice buck Ryan! Yes, the rut here in IA is fizzling in warm weather. No big chase scenes around my house yet, but can't be long. Love your Tekel pup.
