well it's almost time. i, along with my uncles and my sisters boyfriend, will be heading to blackbeard island off the georgia coast tomorrow night for there first management hunt of 2009. so i figured i make a huntalong out of it. we'll start with my truck witch will hopefully get us down there next would be the pic of my boat if i had one but as is i'll just have to tell you about it. it's a 16' carolina skiff, that looks about 8' wide though its really only got a 5' beam. now for pics of all the stuff that is going across with me. pile number one
and pile number two
now for the bows.
i made both of them. with alot of help from the guys on this site. many thanks to all of you. the brown one was my first attempt. it has a walnut riser with red elm limb cores under black glass.it is 60"n-t-n and draws about 50# at 28".
the other has a zebra wood and wenge riser with actinboo cores and zebra wood veneers under clear glass. it is 62" n-t-n and draws about 55# at 28". the arrows are beeman bowhunters with 4" shield cut feathers and a 50grain insert. the broadheads are old bear razorheads with 75grain adapters. this setup shoots well out of both bows. well thats all for installment number one. hopefully i will have some great stories/pics to come on sunday. wish us luck.

Good luck on Blackbeard. I hunted it twice many years go. Great scenery with the live oak ridges and sawtooth palmetto ravines and savannas. Now there are hogs to shoot. None there when I hunted it. I did see a monster cottonmouth under a myrtle bush. Looked like a truck tire from 50 yards away. Don't shoot them!!!

Can't wait to see how this hunt turns out.  I know the TBG boys usually have good results there.

wish i was. going crazy trying to make sure i got everything ready to go. we pull out of athens at around 12:30 tonight. that'll get us down there a few hours before daylight so we can unload the boats and put all the gear in them. we also have to idle out of a pretty long creek. i think we are going to try and make it to the edge of the sound by way of spot light, so that we can be there as soon as it is safe light to go across.

well we got back at around 4 this evening. we had a great time. everybody saw animals. most of us got shots. i am in the process of putting the pics onto the computer. i will get them up as soon as i can.

same to ya jeff. might have to come to some of the tbg events so i can meet some more of you guys.

alright lets get this started. we made it down to the creek we put our boats in at about 5 wednesday mourning. we loaded all the gear and mess into the boats and put them in the water, and by about 6:45 we were heading out to the mouth of the creek. a little behind, but not too bad. we were just beginning to head across the open water when the sun made it to the horizon. about a minute later the sunrise looked alot prettier but the lens of my camera fogged up so i couldn't get another pic. we made it across with no problems, except for the line at the dock waiting to unload. by the time we got our boats unloaded at the dock. it was a quarter past 9am. we marked our spot with a few chairs and waited on our turn for the cart. around 10 we got aur turn, and loaded the cart down. by 11 our camp was set up and we were ready to go scout. this was about 15 minutes into camp set up
thats all for now. i'll post more this evening.

back again. at 11:30 we headed out to scout around. there are trails all over the place. some are better that others. i never found one that i really liked though, so i set up over some fresh pig sign and called it good for the first morning. here is a view of my stand   the whole brown area in this pic has been routed.  you can't see it in the pic but a trail come in from the bottom left of the pic and the majority of the pig sign is behind the tree on the right side. so any pigs that come down the trail will give me about a 5yd shot.
