I have looked for one of these hats or one similar to it for quite a while with no luck. Anybody have any idea where to get one like it? I have a boonie but I want one with that short bill!!  :help:   Thank's Jason

This type hat was what most every bowhunter wore in the 60's and 70's. It was developed especially for bowhunters I think. Sometimes they can be found at garage sales.

Let me ask....

If an archer shoots with a vertical bow....could he do so (in this hat) without string clearance issues?

I need an orange hat here (unfortunately) in a couple months.

You should be fine with a hat like that. That is a "Jones" style cap but it has nothing to do with Larry D Jones and I don't think he wears one of those but a different type of short brimmed hat.

I havn't heard the name Larry D Jones in years and I mean years, great Elk hunter.

Just buy a hat, and if the bill is too long, cut it down and sew it.   Now, I wonder what kind of socks Larry D. Jones wears?????

GMMAT

Probably blue, shiny ones to match his LD JONES "staff" jacket.

I think Mr.Jones wears bucket/boonie type hat knit wool if I remember. That is a at I would like to try.

GMMAT,

You could just use your existing hat and wear a lightweight orange stocking cap over it or sew an orange cover to put over it.

I've got an orange neck gaiter I just hook to my stand on the way in.....and hang on my bow hook while I hunt.

Legal?  Who knows.  Visible?  Yeah.

Thanks!

still have my old "Jones " style from the 70's and it is reversible to orange. every once in a while i break it out and memories of the first cover scent(skunk) come flooding back. dumb us we put that stuff on our hats!

I remember skunk screen. We put it in a kids locker at football camp one year.

I actually think Larry D. wears a bucket hat that was and maybe still is made by Columbia, with adjustable drawstring. Saw him in it the other day on a TV show (Bowhunter Magazine TV) hunting Javelinas.

I just searched for the Columbia hat and it is apparently no longer available--HOWEVER,. Rivers West has a reasonable alternative, in all kinds of different camo, for $23.95

I believe the last L.L.Beans catalog I got had the old "Jones style" hat in there it was a oil skin. I could be wrong I will look through the catalog pile and see if I can find it.
