Idea for "footing" carbons... what do you think?

I don't have any alum. arrows to use to foot my carbons to help keep the ends from splitting on hard impacts. I've seen some posts about using inch or half inch long pieces of the right size allum. arrow. I just realized that 5/16 brass tube fitting collars (about 1/4 inch long and tapered on each end used to crimp fittings on) should fit around my carbon shafts well. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Should a footing piece be longer than 1/4 inch? I think 3rivers has a collar for the same purpose that is only about a quarter inch long. Do you think it could work or should I just buy some allum's t cut up?

Those tube fitting collars should work, if they will fit over the shaft. IMO, the footing is there only to prevent the shaft from splitting if you hit something solid, and they would certainly do that.

Thanks ishi, I'm trying out the carbon express predator 2's. I'm not sure what size in need for that yet. I'm gonna put a micrometer on one when I get home from work and see how it matches up to the heritage series.

ishi, from what I can figure so far I think 2117's would be the best. The predator's that I have have a OD of .293, heritage 90's are .291, and 150's are .300

I just got home from work and tried to slide the brass collars onto the shaft. It turns out I have about .009" gap all the way around. Will that defeat the purpose or should the glue fill in and help it do its job?
