i just picked up a Shrew that fits me perfect. the leather was a little loose so i did some experimenting shooting with the leather on and off. it auctually felt better off and i love the look of the wood. just wondering how many others shoot with out leather or anything on their bow grip?

I don't Ken. I don't grip the handle; I let it set back on the base of my thumb. When I am having a 'diamond day' ( as apposed to stone) shooting; I can neuter a gnat at 20 yards on the wing.

I have hunted the last two years with no leather. This year, there might be leather, might not be. One thing that I did notice, when I have gloves on(that should read when hunting, lol) the wood-glove grip factor can get slick. Of course, this depends on type of gloves, if the wood is checkered, etc.
Another thing to consider is that leather does insulate against the chill a bit too.

Comes right down to personal choice....and how you want to dress She Beast.

No leather on my Kanatis. The riser is way too pretty naked. I also seem to shoot better when I let the bow settle into the grip. The grip design insures consistency that way.

I call BS on Brian's comment though. At our age, it is impossible to tell the sex of a gnat from 20 yards, so I bet he goes for the heart/lung shot just like me!    :bigsmyl:   I don't grip the bow either. I just have two fingers wrapped around front to keep it from following the arrow to the gnat...er...target. Anyway, she's naked and will stay that way.

Do not follow where the path may lead.  Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail.

I like leather on longbows and no leather on recurves. With a grip like your Shrew (She Beast) has, I would be perfectly happy shooting bare wood.
Go for it!

I like leather but it sure is hard to cover up that wood! Maybe try a saddle.

I have never used a leather grip on any of my longbows or recurves for that matter. I could never bring myself to cover up those beautiful exotic woods!!
I reckon so

leather for me on some longbows, none on other longbows.  none on my recurves.

With the grip on your bow, you won't need leather. If you are worried about cold weather, wear a leather glove.

On some of my bows, I use the rubber shur-grip, some are leather, some are bare wood.

No leather for me, it cover's up the wood and I don't grip my bow's.

I like leather on my Shrews but that may primarily be because I have always seen leather on Shrews. It does feel good. I don't think any of my other bows have leather. I also like a bit of checkering or one of Bob Morrison's pinecone carvings on bows that don't have leather, although most of my bows are just the smooth wood. It all works for me!

30coupe - OK - I admit it. I shoot at all the gnats; and then check my broadheads to see if there is anything hanging on the blade.

On my Shrew Samurai I took the leather of because it was starting to get loose a bit.I liked the results. The Kingwood was beautiful and the antler overlays stood out nicer on the riser.I also liked the even smaller grip.I often take the leather off of grips of bows I buy because I found smaller grips suit me.

leather may be good for functional reasons when your hunting in a hot climate and your hands are getting sweaty.

On a long, classic looking D shaped bow I do like the look of a nicely stitched leather grip
