Blacky

I just received four sets of Black Widow PSA limbs for testing. The different limbs will make a PSA bow with 56", 58", 60" or 62" length. They are X-limbs with bocote veneers and actionboo core and are of the same draw weight of 51@28".

I'll test them in the coming days for speed and create f-d curves for every one of them.

What do you guys guess, will be the fastest of the four limb length?

Please post your guess, from fastest to slowest limb: i.e. 56", 58", 60", 62" on this thread. You could also tell us the reasons or thoughts for your guessing.

All limbs will be tested with the same kind of string and an arrow of 9 grains per pound.

Let the guessing begin.

I would guess the 62" will be the fastest, longer limbs store more energy with less movement to waste it. Thats my guess, Im sure there is a limit both ways on limb length.

I cant wait to see your test results Blacky. I always enjoy your test/reviews. Keep up the good work!!! >>>>-----> Greg
Pick a spot.>>>>-------> Shoot straight.

Hey Blacky, great seeing you here!  I'll guess that longer will be quicker, altho it will be close.  Say Hi to Danny (sp?) for me.  Rick

Guessing the 56" limbs, really have no idea but have heard shorter is faster.

Hey Maxwell -"shorter is faster eh?"

Your pretty short, are you saying your fast????

I have a 56" PSA-X it's pretty fast for its draw weight.

Probably not a nickel's worth of difference in speed between the whole range of limbs. If there's any variance, longer is probably gonna be faster...
I'm only as good as my first shot.

Blackhawk

These four will be so close it will be a photo finish...but the 62" wins by 1 fps.

All are close but the shorter limbs are faster. There is less mass to be moved in the shorter limbs at the same poundage. Just a guess...

Well, mine is 60" so that will be my guess.

It doesn't matter how or what you shoot, as long as you hit your target.

To many variables not accounted for - the limb cores alone could influence the outcome, not to mention all four sets must be exactly the same poundage (at 75$ extra per set to insure all limbs are the same poundage), limb pocket tolerances should be the same to avoid slop (this could be possible with the CNC machining), the same thickness of the finish between all limb sets to prevent unwanted mass on the limbs, etc. etc.  etc...

That being said - I'll go with my personal favorite - 58", just becuase that's what I've found shoots best for me.

My guess based on my experience with A&H ACS CX limbs---66", 64" and 62" I would say the longest limb the fastest and progressively slower to the shortest limb, but only sightly. 5 to 6 fps between the 62" to the 56".

At 28", my money will be on the 56" limbs, with the 58" limbs in second.  As the 60 and 62 inches limbs work better with a longer draw, they should be slower at 28".  The longer limbs will do better with a longer draw.  If I remember right, Ken Beck told me once that the 56" limbs would be a little quicker at my 28" draw, the 58" limbs would be a little smoother (I think that is what he said??    )

58" all the way....why? Because I like 58" bows!!

Old wisdom says shorter is faster, but I'm pretty sure that they've found the longer BW limb combos to be faster, or so I recall hearing. So, 62", then 60", then 58", then 56".

Machine shot, shorter.  Man shot, doesn't matter, impossible to get consistant results within the range of difference.
