My wife says I can go elk huntin' !!

Dave, I'm not sure about self or guided, I know a couple guys here from the east did a guided hunt first time they went and then after that did self hunts. Heck, I'm so early into this I don't even know what state to pick.

I have a good friend named Larry that I've hunted Elk with on and off for the last 7 years.

We hunt Colorado.  Since we come from Iowa the mountains are rather intoxicating for us.  We always stop for fuel in Denver.

Larry always say's......."Do we get to go up the hill now?"

I believe I will hear him say it this year if major projects at work can afford me a break in September.

Enjoy everything Larry.  Elkhunting is as much fun to prepare for as the journey and the hunt itself.

larry....ya might as well go with the gang next year...no guide needed..i've guided and hunted elk all my life.guided archery elk hunters two seasons in the eagle caps.i'll show you the ropes for free, and if ya toss in a centaur i'll gaurantee ya a shot at a 300plus bull...    ....now thats a deal....lol....ok i'll toss in lunch...let me know if you are interested...........larry
