I have recently, dare I say, cronied my 66" 50@28 lb Wesley with 585g arrows. Mostly got 147fps @27" and 152fps @28." Should be fine for deer, hogs, black bear. Has anyone cronied any of the other Hill bows, Tembo, Big 5, Cheetah, etc...?
Ive heard it said that for each bamboo lam you can expect approximately 3 fps over the Tembo.
I really like the Cheetah but I don't want to slow down as I like the arc my arrows trace.
Maybe the wood, if it is thick enough to count as a lam, will keep the speed up.

Guess not, think this set-up is too light for 2-300lb wild boar? I'm going friday.

If your broadhead is nice and sharp and you can put it in the lungs, then your setup is perfect. I bet it's pretty quiet, too.

Low tone "thud" is all I percieve from the bow. If I could only get rid of that feather "swack" it would be basically silent. Using those musk ox woolies on D97 string.

Your speed sounds about right if not a little better than average for that draw weight and relatively heavy arrow. I think you should be fine.

my brother has a tembo he just shot through R. Blacky Schwartz's chrono last weekend. With a finger release he was getting about 157fps. It's a 53LBS at 28" but he pulls to about 29 or 29.5.
He just got it so hasn't shot at any game with it.

I`ve killed quite a few hogs with Hill bows in your weight range. I shoot arrows between 600-650 grains and large broadheads. I`ve killed some big South Ga. pigs. Most people over weigh their hogs. A 300 pound swamp hogs is rare.RC

RC

Forgot to add I hunted mostly with a Wesly and a cheetah. The Cheetah "seemed" to shot harder. It has an extra lam of bamboo.RC

Just got in from making sure the broadheads, 190g Grizzlys, shot with the points, bad idea... I took off half a feather. I'm starting to get some good confidence in my set-up.

115fps w/9gpi arrows yes. I shoot 12+

I meant gpp, grains per pound.

I am not saying My Hill longbow is slow but if I  shoot short I run and grab the arrow in the air and throw it the rest of the way. I killed my first buck at six yards with it, it was fast enough that day.

Thanks for the input. Just tried bending the bow arm elbow down, as apposed to out, and drawing my string elbow back in "snug," draw length was still the same but got cleaner arrow flight.
Used alaskas bowhunting supply's single bevel broadhead sharpener, then mod'd the 190's tip to coi tanto. Hopefully I can get inside the comfort zone of some hogs. Thanks again for the insight.

My Halfbreed is 50# @27 and the GT's I shoot weigh about 625 with the 190 Grizzly bh. It chrono's right around 145 fps.  I just finished a Tembo blank with carbon backing and black glass that came out at 57# @27.  It is noticeably faster and just seems to be "snappier" in shooting as opposed to a "softer" draw with the Halfbreed.  It throws a 700 gr arrow about 150 fps. I have noticed with both Hills that I don't gain much in velocity by dropping arrow weight, nor do I lose much by bumping the weight up.  They both seem to like to shoot 143-147 fps with a wide range of weights, so I usually opt for those on the heavier side in order to get the most efficiency from the bow.
And in the end of our exploring we shall return to the place where we started and know that place for the first time.

My 68 inch 5 lamination Redman 64lbs at 30 inches throws a 650 grain arrow around 170.  Hits with a whallop too.
