BOWCHIEF

Hi everyone.  Just getting started with traditional thanks to Boone the hunter selling me his sweet looking whisperstik bow, thanks Dan!  The bow is at 38 lbs (recurve) and my draw is 29" with a compound bow but may turn out to be around 30" shooting traditional.

I'm ordering the Beman MFX Classic arrows from 3R archery and want to see if I ordered the right shaft.  I ordered the 500 spine but am wondering if I should call them tomorrow morning and have them change it to the 400 spine arrow.

I shoot razorcaps for broadheads so I can go from 100 to 200 grains on that in 25 grain increments.

I did order some of the weight tubes that go inside the arrow, 5 and 8 grains per inch so this will allow me to get my arrow weight up without affecting my spine.

I was considering going with the standard aluminum inserts and then just using the different weighted razorcap heads to fine tune the spine of the arrow.  Or, I could go with the brass inserts, leave the weight tubes out and then use my razorcaps to fine tune the arrow spine.

So, I'm hoping to get some input on this and maybe from someone shooting this particular arrow.  Thanks!

BowCheif: I draw about a 50 pound bow and use the MFX 400 with 100 grain inserts and I like them.  I think the 500 are probably about right for the weight you are pulling.

If you have any doubts, buy a few bare shafts and work with them before you buy.  I bought 4 and put the 12 grain inserts in 2 and 100 grain inserts in the other.  See how they fly and you can cut them down or play with the tip weight to get the right combo.  If you are hunting the weight load up front is preferable.

One thing that really gave me fits was the difference between B50 and fast flight.  They shoot totally different so you could work with those.

Remember one change at a time.

Good Luck, Jeff

You're closer to a 600 spine than a 400 with that weight. You'll need to put some decent weight up front and leave some length on them for 500s to tune true.

Sounds like the 500 is the way to go.  Looks like I may even be putting the 100 grain brass inserts in and then I can still load the front with my razorcaps if needed.

I really appreciate the info.  Thanks.
