Single strap over the shoulder daypack

Cabelas is where I got mine. Got it set up but haven't been in the field with it yet. Be nice I think.

I switched this year to a single strap bag because I found the typical backpack straps too noisy, even if I simply raised my arms to make a shot--it often alerted the animal.
Not only is the single strap much more quiet but I found I liked having the load hanging lower and not on my back.  Ducking low limbs and crawling is easier.

So I shopped around the local mall and found a canvas bag that had the strap coming off at an angle so the bag remains vertical.  This one was rather expensive but I have seen similar but less complex types for much less money at GI Joes and Sportsman warehouse, where the strap comes straight up like a woman's purse.

REI also sells a really nice and heavy bag that is lined with nylon and has more compartments.  On the outside the bottom is leather but the top half, or so, is heavy canvas (I believe).  But it is over $100.

I put a snap on my bag so that I can snap it to my belt to keep it in place, that way it won't swing around to my front when I lean over, etc.

I think Little Bighorn used to make a pack called the "Deer Bandolier" It was like a half vest. Like this. I could not find one for sale though.

Sounds like you are describing something like the single sling bag kids use to tote their school books.  I use one on my bagless motorcycle. -- works great,light and  very comfortable-- Iam thinking you could modify one of those to serve your purposes-- they are like $20-Wally World. Also,  Fanny pack might be another way to go.

Here is the one I use. It's a replica of a WW2 messenger bag. I picked it up at Jax Outdoor Gear in Ft Collins CO for under $20. I think I've seen them at Cabelas also. It's got a larger separated compartment inside and lots of pockets,holds quite a bit of stuff and I've been really pleased with it. The strap is quite long and adjustable. It hangs low enough on my lower back that I can wear it with my back quiver. The material is soft and quiet.

Heck, I just sling my fanny pack over my head and shoulder and go.  Can't stand the thing around my waist if it has any amount of weight in it.  

I've also got a couple different military surplus canvas bags that resemble a black powder possibles bag that are real handy.

If you are only carrying a couple items for a day hunt you could look into a possibles bag or the quiver/bag combo that 3rivers carries.

Another option is to make a leather bag yourself if this would suit your needs.

Maxpedition has a ton of options for this.
I have a Jumbo Versipack, it holds a water bottle and a good amount of stuff. Kinda handy when I don't want to carry a pack that holds a hydration bladder.
I like Maxpedition products, they're made really tough and it seems they'll last forever.


Look under versipacks for the one strap versions, of course backpacks are a whole other discussion. I like the Foliage Green personally.

I've seen some that have the same conventional backpack strap but only one and is oreninted to keep the pack hanging center of your back. The Uncle Rays at Bison had no picture...  I'll find one. Off to Maxpedition !

I got opne last year that also has a way of attaching a bow quiver. Pretty neat design.

Oh yes--it's called the Spot n' Stalk by Game Gear. Get it through Realtree Roadtrips among other places.

Filson carries a couple of packs like you are talking about. I think they call them field bags. They have a medium and large and the quality in excellent, will last you the rest of your life.

I just checked their website. They have the small and medium field bags and also a less expensive one called a tincloth field bag. I have a lot of their luggage and the stuff is indestructable.
