pheasant points?

Just wondering what others are using for a head when hunting pheasants with a dog? If by some freak chance I hit one, I'd like to do as much damage as possible, while still protecting my dog when he retrieves it... I like the Magnus blunt, but don't like the idea of it being in my dog's mouth. Judo's?

How's that for a good looking pup?

I really like the G5 small game head, but at 7 bucks a pop, looking for something a bit cheaper...

I think the larger tip is called the condor... anyone ever shoot the head that looks like a field tip with a washer on the back?

HAve you looked at the G5 small game point. I have not used it but it looks like it will do the job with little chance off harming a dog

Its called the G5 S.G.H.(Small Game Head) it has a 1" cutting Diameter

just take a junk broadhead and remove all the point and cuting edges. no need for a sharp head you still need to hit them good.

The couple of options would be a new small game point called the Hammer that 3 Rives sells. Another would be the Ace Hex head.

In my younger days I have bagged 3 pheasant, 2 ducks and a Hungarian Partridge out of the air with a trad bow. Some were taken with cheap 'expendable' target arrows. But I got 1 peasant and the Hun with flu flus and the Snaro tip it worked great, fell away and was easy to find.

I never had a dog at the time (would have great for pointing, flushing and retrieving) but you have a good point that you would not want your dog to get the point - get the point!

In that I would reccomned the Snaro or a good blunt that would fall away.

One of the ducks flew off about 300 yards with a cheap target arrow stuck in it and landed in a wheat field. It took about 2 hours to find it and chase it down. It was not a fatal hit.

I shot a chuckar with a bow a long time ago. Snaro point and flu-flu over a Brittany.

Thanks all... Will try the hammer most likely, and see how many arrows I'm losing. If not too many, I may try the SGH.

Tim: You shouldn't use any arrows if you use a bright fletch color and some sort of flu-flu fletching. Have fun.

I was a guest on a pheasant hunt last year where dogs were used. I used some old Tiger Claws without any objection from either the dog handler or the dogs. The hard part was connecting, but what few I hit, the Tiger Claw worked. I also use the same head for squirrel.

I believe you can buy Tiger Claws through 3R, though I think they now call them Barta blunts.

Just make sure you use flu flu's and you won't lose them. I have used judos with great success and I used old zwickey broadheads (dull them for the dogs sake) with a washer behind them.

Shots are usually close so you should have pretty good penetration.

Good looking wife (no disrespect intented ok)good looking dog too. Wish I could get my wife interested, but no go.
