Adcock Fletch - the turbulator one

Thinking about trying to duplicate this fletch  http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=057257;p=20#000289  However, I'm a newbie and am wondering how do you make a feather like this?  The choppers that I find online don't have that shape.  Do you just cut with a scissors?  Also, could I just buy pre-shaped 3" banana, parabolic, or shield and have the same results?  Also, I am working up a set of practice only arrows for a light weight 36# bow (no broadheads) but low FOC.  Could this same shape and style be used for these arrows - shucks maybe wouldn't need a turbulator for it.  Where do you buy pinstripes?  Sorry for the many questions.  But, I do appreciate any help.

I dunno if he'd be interested but I know a chap who will alter a raptor feather chopper to make the A&A feather design.

That's a very easy feather profile to make a chopper for.  It took me less than an hour to build my first chopper (after a few beers no less).

You could get the pinstripes in a hobby store that sells RC Planes and such I bet.

Might be more work than people would like but one or two layers of string wrapped over the shaft with a layer of clear fingernail polish has the potential to look very nice!  (Think of the wrappings on very nice fishing rods or tying your own flies.)

Is this stuff going to be covered in Ashby's next report...or will it only be EFOC/UFOC?

bowdoc-ther is a long thread about very short fletching preceeded by a airflow interrupter 1/4 inch in front of the fletch-it interrups laminar flow and supposed to stabilize the arrow better.Flatour has a post for it in the first in this series

Since I have a pile of 5" shields I just measure 2.5" from the tip and cut ninety degrees with quality scissors, yields a 2.5" feather 0.5" high at the back, basically a right triangle.

Real bowdoc, yes it is a fletch some are using, the idea is to minimize the fletch size/height which quiets the fletch and robs less speed. I use them with the turbulator and they stabilize my broadheads very well, even when wet.

katman thanks.I was not sure.I know I have some super old arrows that have broadheads mounted on them.I beleave they were from around the 1920's.But some of them guy's shot a very short(3 1/2"-4") 4 fletched arrow to stabilize the broadhead as soon as possible.I did try out a few 4" 4 fletch myself and they seem to work fairly well.Again KM thank for the heads up...bowdoc

Now wait a minute.  EFOC is supposed to enhance flight and improve penetration.  It supposedly allows for less fletching, so why does one have to have this little tail?  Now I'm not opposed to a little tail....it's the principle of the thing.

And....shouldn't it be called a deturbulator.  Or perhaps a misinturbulator.  Whatever happened to just tuning your arrows 8^).

Excuse me now but I have to get back to finalizing the design of my Testiculator.  Congress is in need of some of those.
