Randy,

Do you have the whole skull - lower jaw as well? I have a pronghorn that was done in a unique way. I'll try and take a pic and post it for you Fri morning, as the mounts in my office at work.

My Son-in-law did a whitetail mount that has a base thats about 6-8" tall that is a little taller in the back so the skull leans forward in a more natural position that looks really good. It has a free standing base that sits flat on a table.

Randy there is a lady taxidermist in Glenrock that can do some art work on it for you. Her name is Kim Lutz and the business is Kim's Art Wild. On my mule deer she scrimshawed my buck on the top of his skull. I don't have her number handy but you can get through information. It would be worth a visit to her shop.

pedestal mounts for deer heads look really good in my opinion. Look for a pedestal base for a bear skull or something.

i was watching the hunting shows the other day and they were dipping the skulls in camo like they do shotguns and bows. it looked neat but not my cup of tea.

My son and I have taken a number of cape buffalo. We did shoulder mounts on two of them (the biggest ones each of us shot), but those mounts stick out 4 feet from the wall and we quickly ran out of space. We had one mounted as a bleached skull European mount and it is nice, but just looks like the bones it is, so not that interesting. Then I had one of the skulls bronzed with a patina applied that I liked. I am so pleased with it that I am having another cape buffalo skull done the same way that I shot in August. If you are interested in the bronzing, I can give you more information or even send you a picture of my mount.

Here is one I just finished for my elk. Made it out of pine shelving boards that I had on hand. I routed a cove around the outer edge and stained the wood. The piece that connects the two plaques is a short piece of 1X4 that I cut at an angle on one end. Oh, and the precise circle was obtained by tracing around fido's food bow.
