How often do you reset your brace height?
«

With the string currently on my bow Im resetting the brace height before each shooting session and after. Its out by about a quarter inch each time.
Is this normal, seems the string hasnt settled at all? Its a 12 strand DF-97 and Ive put a good couple hundred shots through it already.
Any thoughts?

Whump Sez; Is your string Flemish twist style or endless loop? If Flemish twist---it could be slipping some. Be sure you are not untwisting the string when adjusting brace height, this will cause the Flemish twist string to slip and become longer. If you have an endless loop set up, I doubt if it is slipping it is probably just stretching. You can help it settle in by stringing your bow and wax the string real heavy. Now take a piece of thin leather and fold it around the string and rub it up and down the string to heat up the fibers a bit---you don't have to try and make fire just a good brisk rubbing, now adjust your brace height and you should be good to go. If your bow is extremely heavy in poundage 90 or 100lb pull you may need to increase your strands in the string. I hope this helps you out a bit. Hunt safe.

When the string hits my wrist or right before the fletching hits my bow. That's on a self bow.

Someone in another thread had a great idea (that I've yet to try). They suggested cresting your arrows so that the end of the crest is even with your riser when your brace hight is right. That way, you can tell at a glance (when you nock an arrow) if your brace hight is right or not.
One of these days, I'll actually get around to trying that :-)

Sounds like something is slipping. The string should have stretch in by a few dozen shots.
The stringmaker I get my strings from pre-stretches all the strings he makes. I set the initial nock point and brace height and shoot a few dozen arrows. I reset the brace height and it stays set forever.

I've had FF strings to keep "slipping" until they came apart. I'm not a string maker, but I'm pretty sure it's in how the string is made. Only a few of many have done that. Very irritating when it happens. My guess is that the string needed a little more length so that it could be twisted more.
