Looks like I've narrowed my search down to 2 bows and would appreciate any feedback from the gang on bow performance, characteristics, what I can expect etc.  I'm not looking to bash either bow, I just need some help making a decision ... I wish I could own both.

The 2 bows in question are an A&H ACS or a Morrison Shawnee with the Dakota Foam Core Carbon limbs.

Thanks!

Doug,

I'm a big Morrison fan, and in London, where are you? I shoot left but my son shoots right, he has one Shawnee and I have two plus one more on order. So if you want to shoot either, just say so, and we'll set it up. Bob Morrison is one fantastic guy to deal with and you will have a hard time finding a faster, better looking bow than a Morrison.Shoot mae a PM with your phone number and I'll call you.

Hey Doug, you can't go wrong with either, Bob Morrison is a great guy to deal with, and his bows are top notch. Never shot an A&H, but the bow and bowyer have the same reputation as Bob.
Top notch!! PM sent.

For me, it would be the Morrison.  More options in woods and limb veneers, etc.  The grip, though, is the biggest factor for me.  I just couldn't figure how to hold the ACS I had.  It was too small for my hands.  I was terribly inconsistent with it.  It was quieter than the Morrison, though.
Morrison was smoother to draw.  Both are fast, and well made.
Good luck in your search!

I have one of each. ACS cx 64" 55@27 and a Swawnee with Arrapaho limbs 56" 56@27. Both are fast quite and handle light(8-9 ppp) to heavy (12+) arrows very well. My ACS is a touch faster and with the aluminum riser is absoultely dead in the hand.

I have had a couple of each, and I don't think you could go wrong with either.  The speed is about the same, with a slight edge to the Morrison with the foam/carbon limbs.  I sold the ACS bows as the grip was a bit off for me.  It came down to a matter of preference.  For what it is worth, the ACS bows were faster with 64" limbs than with the 62" limbs.  I am not sure why, but I had 2 sets of limbs in 64" and 2 sets in 62", all within a pound in weight, and both 64" were faster.

Both bows have top notch reputations, however do yourself a BIG MONEY SAVING FAVOR and don't buy anything that you haven't shot.

If there is just no way to shoot one first,I suggest a used one as close to your specs as possible. That way if for whatever reason you don't like it,you can get most if not all your money back by selling or trading.

I have both a Shawnee and an A&H.  Cannot go wrong with either.  I lean slightly with the Morrison though but that's just personal preference.

I also have both A&H 64" 54#@28 and a Morrison Shawnee 64" 53#@28 foam core carbon. Both have about the same speed, but the Morrison has a little bit better riser grip for me, It's also  a 16" riser, and my A&H is 14". There both great bows.

I appreciate all the feedback. Based on the comments I've decided that I need to try these bows before forking out the big bucks. I already had the opportunity to try the A&H and liked it. I'm heading to Bob's first thing tomorrow morning (6 hour drive) and if I leave empty handed then I guess it'll be the A&H.

Take your checkbook with you, then.  ;)

I agree, shoot before buying!  I wound up going with a bow I had never even heard of after shooting a bunch of different bows at a trrad archery show.

I've never had a Morrison longbow but the A&H's that I have suit me perfectly and are my "go too" bows...

Wish Bob would offer an aluminum riser, I'd sure try one.

I'm back from my road trip!!

It was a real pleasure meeting Bob and his wife. As you can see, I didn't come home empty handed!!

Thanks to all the Trad Gang for your comments, to "Dave - Hunt It" for the phone call and to Bob and all his staff.

Time to go play!!
