They're the best thing since sliced bread. I've used them hunting from Canada to Florida. I wouldn't go into the woods during bug season without one!

When these things first came out I thought for sure they were just another stupid gimmick to separate hunters from their money.  WRONG!!
They really do work incredibly well.  There way things have been around here the last couple of summers I even use mine just around the yard.

Do you have to lite them? How do they work?

I've learned here that they don't work on chiggers! Keeps the rest of the pests at bay.

Ya ain't just whistlin' dixie there!!!

They have built in igniter, fueled by butane, and heats a little repelant soaked mat.  Keeps the little nasties at bay.  I've been in Quebec two years now spring bear hunting and there are absolutely amazing.  Turn it on and lay it on the tree stand platform and nothing will touch you. You can see the haze of bugs circling.  As soon as a mat or butane runs out its a race to see how many bites you get before you can get it changed and started up again.  :p  dino

I have just bought one, not used it yet. Be deer season for I use it. If it was as dry as last year I wont need it! Last year I bought a bug tamer and never ONCE wore it, never ONCE got bit.

If I didn't have it I'd been carried off.

I used mine once this week. Now it won't light. I'm gonna field dress it and see what I can do.

I agree on it being money well spent.I am useing mine now in the yard. The skeeters are terrible this year and I can't shoot late afternoon without it.
....Quality deer management means shooting them before they get tough....

I don't go to the woods without mine if there is even a remote chance of mosquitos, gnats, or flies being out.  They work extremely well.  Killdeer did you get yours wet? I've not heard of that happening to one yet.  Let us know what you find out.        BOB

Killy... I had one that quit working after the first time. Nothing I did could get it to fire up.
Returned it to WalMart (didn't even buy it there) and got a new one ... even exchange.

Alot of my buddies have them & swear by them, guess I'm gonna have to purchase one before season.I just have a hard time believing that if the skeeters can smell it & it repels them that it won't repel the deer to....anybody have any trouble with the deer smelling there thermacell...hate to be a skeptic on something that everyone gives such a good report & i have no doubt believing their ability to repel bugs it's just the scent factor for me...

if they can smell the thermocell they can smell you to! If you hunt the wind it's not a problem at all.
