When footing carbons with aluminum footing what 's a good length 4 or 5 inches or longer and what epoxy do you use for gluing them on with.
Anyone knows the size that fits a CX 250......stabow

I did find out that a 2114 would fit a CX 250 but need to apply before the insert is applied or it won't slide over......stabow

I do 1.5" and use JB weld.

Justed (torture) tested out some this morning on a 30 target course.  2" of lap (but a little different story for me as I use an additional 2" to lengthen my arrow, and a cut piece of carbon shaft riding between my full length shaft and the aluminum insert).  Glued up with Powerbond.  I lost one in a repaired foam target - that repair material is brutal.... and bulged one on a steel drum - thanks Brent for putting that image in my head.  I use 2216's on Heritage 250's.  My prep work may have not have been stellar on these.  I usually like GoatTuff for my glueing.  I don't like the "mess" of JB Weld.

Ya only want the footing to be a bit longer if any than the regular insert or else you just move the breaking point farther back. I use 1.5"s. Shawn

I know what you are saying Shawn, but my failures on plain carbon shafts are "mushrooming" and "end splits".  We hunt a few rocks around here....lol.

I just do enough to keep the ends from splitting. My footings were 1" but I'm now experimenting with 3/4" and haven't had any problems yet.

I'm with Ray on this one. It just seems to me that the whole idea of the footing is to stop splitting and mushrooming so a footing of an inch or less is good enough.
