Why do I love bows that are no longer in production?

I have a knack for really getting attached to bows that are no longer being made.  Guess I'll have to treat them very well.  Big River is a favorite, and I have three.  A recurve and two longbows.  The 21st Century clone D/R longbow 60" (65#) is one of my favorites.  Thunderstick MOAB 60" is another.  It has a cult following among those who like Hybrid style longbows.  It is another one contending for top spot. (63#)  Then there is a Moosejaw Razorback.  Newest to the stable and also the longest at 66".  Have not hunted this bow yet but intend to this year, so that I can get used to the added length.  It should be good for spot and stalk on hogs. (60#)  The top two shoot similar fps with the same arrows.  The latest to the fold "feels" close to the same speed, but has not been verified by chronograph.  I know this is a terrible problem to have, but we all have our cross to bear!  All of these bows; the bowyer has passed, retired or just doesn't make bows any longer.  Thank my lucky stars that all these bows are in very good condition.  Do I need a twelve step program or will I be OK?

Yep.   I get it.   I'd love a MOAB.   I had Jim make a left hand MOAB that I gave to my brother back probably 15-20 yrs ago.   I'd love another Assenheimer.   I'd love another Zipper.  But....that's the way it goes.

Sometimes if you are able,  it pays to adopt the "2 is 1,  1 is none" mentality.   You gotta buy when you can,  while the gettins' good.   So many good things over the years,  come and go ..... as nothing lasts forever. And hey,  most times it can be a smart investment!!!   Would you pay full price or even a little more for a brand new never been shot new old stock MOAB or Big River?   Just been sitting on a rack or stored meticulously in a bow sock or whatever???  EXACTLY!!!  In the mean time, hold on to the bows you really like!

I feel the same way about my Toelke Lynx.  I've known several other people who bought one, and they all love them too.  I spoke to Dan personally about it when he decided to stop making them.  I already had two, so it wasn't for me, but for all the people who didn't have one yet.  But he had new things in mind, and didn't want to get any bigger than he already was, so something had to go.

Have invested in the bows that I appreciate and that perform well.  Haven't paid more than $600 for any of them.  That is a big plus.  Preservation is the goal.
