Nock fix?

I just finished building my first half dozen arrows and was shooting a couple when the nock came off one. I used hot glue and after watching a few videos I may have messed up. Everything I've seen and read ( a little too late ) duco seems to be popular. My question is after getting the nocks off what is the best way to get the glue off the wood taper without messing it or the whole finished arrow up? Thanks for the help!

For wood arrows, I use hot melt for the point and Duco for the nocks and feathers. I use Ferrill-tite hot melt, but that may be old fashioned. Of course, Duco may be old fashioned too, but I recently tested it against more modern adhesives, and it holds up quite well. I would just shave off the old glue with the nock taper tool, but you could probably sand it just as well.  Don't worry about it too much; just get it smooth so the nock fits true.

If you used hot melt for the nock,   use a HEAT GUN on a lower setting and from several inches away,  to soften that glue without the burning risks of open flames.   If you dont have a heat gun,  a hair dryer at closer range and on high,  will also work.  Heat the glue,  wipe off with a paper towel, rag exc.
It will wipe off nice and clean.  When you reglue,  use Fletch Tite Platinum or Duco cement.   I use Bohning finishes on all my wood arrows and the Platinum is perfectly compatible so I have zero issues.  I have used a
lot of Duco as well,  especially with woodies that I have used poly to finish.  I use Bohning exclusively these days though.

I have used Duco, Bohning Fletch-Tite Platinum and Saunders NPV Arrow Mate Cement for years on wood carbon and aluminum all have worked well, I do not like fast drying glues at all they are to brittle for me. I uses Devcon two part epoxy for over 15 years for all my points,inserts and broadheads.

Thanks for the answers folks. I'll break out the wife's hair dryer this evening. Thankfully it looks like I can replace the nocks with the correct glue and not mess up the wraps and fletching.
