I just purchased a Toelke Pika longbow from one of the members of this forum.  It is awesome!  I already am shooting it better than my other bows. :archer2:  I would like to solicit some advise as I finetune this set up.

Bow Specs:  Toelke Pika, 56", Takedown Model, 42lbs at 28" draw.  (My draw is 28".)

Few Questions:
1) What does the "- 23" mean written below the poundage specs on the bow?
2) I am interested in purchasing other Toelke Bows and love this grip.  Does anyone know the name of this one?
3) Is it recommended to swap out the string for a Flemish twist?  The current endless loop and cat whiskers have a twang to them.  I am interested in the performance and sound quality pros / cons of swapping out the string.
4) Any recommendations on swapping out the silencers for a better sound wither with the current endless loop or a Flemish twist string?
5) Any other recommendations to consider for this set-up?

The "23" indicates the year the bow was made. The grip on your bow is the standard locator grip. I have owned a large number of bows from Dan, all of them with the supplied strings and cat whiskers and every single one was/is extremely quiet. If you are experiencing any "twang" I suspect it is a tuning issue and I'd first try raising the brace height. Dan is easy to reach at 406-253-4949.

Probably a tuning issue if it's loud. I'd give them a call. He's super helpful. The guy had me call him one time about a problem I was having, and I wasn't even shooting one of his bows...
It's gotten to the point where basic common sense, about a lot of things these days, doesn't make a lot of sense to most people.

Heard nothing but praises about Selway slide on quivers making a huge difference in noise. Something to consider if you'll hunt with a bow quiver. Above comments concerning it being a tune issue seem plausible. Establish a GPP hunting arrow you wish to shoot and work towards that. Added weight will yield positive results.

looks like its tillered split finger. He writes Apache for bows tillered 3 under typically.

I swapped out the endless string on a whip and whistler with a custom flemish twist from SBD (Silent but Deadly Bowstrings) 8 strand string and a custom 10 Ring string as well.I used wool puffs trimmed to be kinda smaller and nice rounded shape.

It does not hurt to try another string other than the cost and you will have a spare string.Use the one you like best and the other can be a spare.

I also like the Selway 4 arrow mini size rawhide bow quiver suggested by another member above if you use a bow quiver. It holds 4 arrows of any make broadhead.Dampens out any vibration and or noise well with its all rubber components that fit on the riser fadeouts.

Other than that maybe try a heavier arrow.A 1916 Easton aluminum might be good for 42 #s at your 28 inch draw.
