I checked the "How to" threads and didn't see any that show how to make Elk antler limb bolts. I have a set of elk antler butts and would like to make a set of limb bolts for my son and daughter's recurve. If you can include how to make a design in the center of them that would be great too! I'm assuming you use a wood burning tool.

Thanks in advance!

B.glass they are easy to make, use a fosner bit and drill a hole in the bottom and epoxy a bolt the length you need 2" is normal and most bows use a 5/16-18 thread, i use a stainless washer on the bottom and epoxy it alone with the bolt, i use a hex head bolt by the way, if you take a 2x4 and drill a hole a little bigger than the bolt and 90deg. to the flat of the board then when you pou the bolt in the hole the burr will be flst, be sure you use some plastic wrap between the burr and 2x4.
when the glue has set up you can sand the top of the burr smothe i go to 220 grit, then you can leave it natural or burn it with a torch to make it brown, if this is all you want put aome clear poly and you are done.
or you can draw some deer hoof print on them and take a dremal tool and remove the brown in the hoof prints and have a white hoof print or any other picture you are able to do.
  i use a small carbide tool a 1/32 i think.
when you are done 2coats of polly will do it.
  hope this helps

I'd like to have a take down just for the antler limb bolts. I find them so cool!
